Daniel Runge (Chancellor)

Daniel Runge (born September 7, 1561 in Greifswald ; † January 27, 1629 ibid.) Was a German legal scholar and Chancellor of Pommern-Wolgast .

Life

Daniel Runge was the son of the Pomeranian general superintendent Jacob Runge (1527-1595). After attending schools in Stettin and Greifswald, he began to study, he studied law in 1578 at the University of Greifswald , on May 11, 1585 at the University of Wittenberg , at the University of Leipzig , the University of Strasbourg and finally at the University of Basel . In Basel , he was on December 8, 1587 for Doctor of Laws PhD . From 1588 (1590) he taught as a professor at the artist faculty of the University of Greifswald. In 1592 he moved to the law school. He was elected rector of the university in 1595.

In 1603 he went to Wolgast , where he became Princely Privy Councilor of Duke Philipp Julius of Pomerania. In 1607 he was appointed Chancellor in Szczecin . For health reasons he was dismissed from the latter position in 1624. He moved back to Greifswald, where he was buried on February 10, 1629 in the Nikolaikirche there.

Runge married on December 7th 1590 Ilsebe Maeves, daughter of the professor jur. the University. Greifswald and princely Pomeranian privy councilor Thomas Maeves. Children were born from marriage. We know of these:

  2. So. Friedrich Runge (1599–1655) was the first Brandenburg chancellor in Western Pomerania .
