Daniel Thulesius

Johann Daniel Thulesius (born May 6, 1889 in Hamburg ; † April 3, 1967 in Braunschweig ) was a German architect and university professor . From 1918 to 1957 he taught at the Technical University of Braunschweig .

Life

The son of an engineer studied architecture at the Technical University of Hanover and then with Theodor Fischer at the Technical University of Munich . In 1918 he accepted an appointment at the Technical University of Braunschweig, where he initially worked as an extraordinary and later as a full professor of architectural drawing and spatial art. He retired in 1957 . Horst von Bassewitz is one of his students .

Thulesius was active in the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge , where he chaired the local branch of Braunschweig and later that of the regional branch. For this activity he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class. Since 1949 he was a full member of the Braunschweig Scientific Society .

Between 1945 and 1948, the Braunschweig State Theater, which was badly damaged during the Second World War, was rebuilt under his direction . In June 1949, the Leonhard Chapel in Braunschweig was restored as the Church of the Christian Community. According to Thulesius' plans, the Evangelical Church of the Resurrection was built in Münster in 1956/1957 . He designed several war cemeteries and places of honor , including the Dahner Ehrenfriedhof .

In 1960, Thulesius' artistic work was featured in the exhibition “Daniel Thulesius. Drawings and watercolors by an architect ”shown in the Städtisches Museum Braunschweig .
