Daniel Wahl (born March 31, 1966 in Zurich ) is a Swiss director and actor .

Life

Daniel Wahl studied theater education from 1989 to 1991 at the Zurich University of the Arts . In the beginning he played and staged at the boys theater basel. This was followed by work as a movement choreographer and director for the Lucerne theater. At the same time he also worked for the independent scene at home and abroad (Pro Helvetia Cairo). In 1999 Simon McBurney (Theater Complicite, London) hired him as an actor for the production "Mnemonic". He played in Riverside Studios , in the National Theater and in 2000/2001 followed a tour of Barcelona Mercat de les flors , Paris, MC93 Bobigny to New York's John Jay College of Criminal Justice . During the same period he met Sebastian Nübling . He has had a very long and intensive collaboration with Sebastian. In 2001 he staged again for the Lucerne Theater. "The double Lottchen", "Alice in Wonderland" and "Wolfsjunge" (a project with deaf and hearing actors). He co-produced "Wolfsjunge" and a year later "Schällemätteli" (a project with ex-convicts) with his company DAKIWA, which was founded especially for this purpose. 2003 permanent engagement at Theater Basel as actor and director. In 2005 he began working as an actor and director at the Schauspielhaus Hamburg . His productions included "Lord of the Flies", "Whoever Eats Out of a Tin Bowl", the German premiere of Simon Stephen's "Punk Rock", and the generation project "Spring Awakening". He also directed for the Junge Schauspielhaus. Since September 2011 he has also worked for the Freiburg Theater and the Junge Theater Basel, among others. Together with Viva Schudt, Daniel Wahl founded UGLE - urban guerilla life entertainment in Freiburg on November 1st, 2015, a laboratory for researching theater in public urban space.
