Danny Thomas (born November 22, 1999 in Tuscaloosa , Alabama ) is an American tennis player .

Career

Junior tour

Danny Thomas was able to celebrate his first successes on the junior tour. At the Orange Bowl , a Grade A junior tournament, he was able to reach the semi-finals in 2016, which he lost to the eventual tournament winner Miomir Kecmanović . Together with his partner Vasil Kirkov , he reached the final of the French Open in 2017 , in which they were defeated by Nicola Kuhn and Zsombor Piros in two sets. In the same year he reached the quarter-finals in singles at the US Open .

Professional tour

On the professional tour, Thomas has only played tournaments on the third-class ITF Future Tour . In doubles he was able to win his first three tournaments. He won his first title on the Challenger Tour in Charlottesville on the side of Denis Kudla . In the final, they benefited from an injury-related abandonment of their opponents Jarryd Chaplin and Miķelis Lībietis .

Thomas made his Grand Slam debut at the US Open in 2017 . He and his partner Vasil Kirkov received a wild card for the double field. There he met the number 9 seeded Oliver Marach and Mate Pavić , against whom he lost 4: 6, 2: 6 in two sets. He also played in the mixed competition at the US Open alongside Liezel Huber . There he was also defeated in the first round against the seeded duo Lucie Hradecká and Marcin Matkowski in two sets.
