Vasil Kirkov (born March 13, 1999 in Asenovgrad , Bulgaria ) is an American tennis player .

Career

Kirkov first played on the ITF Junior Tour in 2012. He was able to play his way up to 13th place in the junior ranking, which he reached in February 2017. He was particularly successful in doubles at the Junior Grand Slams . In 2015 he reached the quarter-finals at the US Open ; just like at Wimbledon in 2016 . In 2017 he achieved his greatest success when he reached the final of the French Open with Danny Thomas , where they were defeated by Nicola Kuhn and Zsombor Piros .

For the pros, he played for the first time in 2015 on the third-rate ITF Future Tour . In April 2016, he made his first semi-finals there. In August of the same year he lost in the first round of qualifying for the US Open against Yannik Reuter and at the Masters in Miami against Lukáš Lacko at the beginning of 2017 , where he won a set. For the doubles competition at the US Open 2017 , he got a wildcard with Danny Thomas . At the beginning they lost to Oliver Marach and Mate Pavić 4: 6, 2: 6. So far he has not been able to qualify for any tournament on the ATP Challenger Tour or ATP World Tour on his own. His best placement in singles and doubles is outside the top 1000.
