The place is marked on the municipality of the parcel cadastre of the Hardenberg mayor's office from 1815/16 as on Dantzberg . In the municipality lexicon for the province of Rhineland from 1888, a house with 17 inhabitants is given.

With the municipal reform of 1929, the southern part of Dönberg was split off and incorporated into the newly founded city of Wuppertal with other Nevigeser villages outside Dönberg, the rest of Dönberg and Danzberg initially remained with Neviges. As a result of the regional reform of North Rhine-Westphalia , Neviges came to the city of Velbert at the beginning of 1975 and the rest of the Dönberg was also incorporated into Wuppertal.
