Darkest Hour is one of five US metalcore - band from Washington, DC In addition to the typical features of metalcore songs included the band's strong melodic death metal conditions influencing the fate.

history

In 1995 singer John Blakemore Henry, guitarist Mike Schleibaum, bassist Raul Mayorga and drummer Matt Maben met and formed the band Darkest Hour together. After writing their first songs, they released their first EP, The Misanthrope, on the indie label Death Truck Records in 1996 . In the same year they also recorded the song Paths of Despair , which subsequently appeared on the compilation The Harder They Come . In 1999 the band released their second EP The Prophecy Fulfilled , which was then distributed by Art Monk Construction . After The Prophecy Fulfilled came out , the line-up changed a lot: bassist Raul Mayorga left the band and was replaced by Billups Allen, Matt Maben also dropped out and Ryan Parrish took his place. Fred Ziomek also joined the band and from then on played as the second guitarist.

With the new formation, the band then recorded their debut album The Mark of the Judas , which did not stay on the market for long because the label MIA Records , which sold the album, surprisingly went bankrupt. Looking for a new label, Darkest Hour signed a record deal with Victory Records , where they released their album So Sedated, So Secure on August 7, 2001 . Shortly thereafter, bassist Billups Allen and guitarist Fred Ziomek left the band and were replaced by Paul Burnette and Tommy Gun. After Tommy got an offer from Immortal Avenger , he left the band after a few weeks. The band then announced Mike Garrity, a good friend of Mike Schleibaum, as a new member with whom they would play their subsequent tours. With Kris Norris, an old friend of Ryan Parrish, the band found a new permanent guitarist with whom they released the band's third album in May 2003 under the name Hidden Hands of a Sadist Nation . In contrast to its two predecessors, the album had a clear influence in the direction of Melodic Death Metal and was produced by the Swedish producer and guitarist Fredrik Nordström. In 2004 the band played for the first time at one of the biggest festivals, the Ozzfest , where they were allowed to play alongside famous bands such as Slayer , Black Sabbath , Judas Priest and Slipknot .

In 2005 the band released their fourth studio album Undoing Ruin , with which the band stormed to # 138 on the US Billboard 200 for the first time . This time the album was produced by Devin Townsend , who had already helped bands like Soilwork and Lamb of God to great success. The band then played several tours across North America and Europe and released their first DVD Party Scars and Prison Bars: A Thrashography . In 2006 Victory Records re-released the album So Sedated, So Secure .

In 2007 the band began, again with the support of Devin Townsend, with the recording of Deliver Us , which was released on July 10, 2007. Then the band went on tour with At the Gates as a support . In September 2008, the band announced that Kris Norris had left the band and was replaced by Mike Carrigan.

In March 2009, Darkest Hour began recording their sixth album, The Eternal Return . During the recording, the band played on the Trash and Burn Tour 2009 with Bleeding Through as headliner . The Eternal Return was released on June 23, 2009 after delays in its release. In February 2010 the band played together with Iwrestledabearonce , Dillinger Escape Plan and Animals as Leaders . In April of the same year, the band announced that they had separated from Victory Records and signed a recording deal with E1 Music .

From November to December 2010 the band played a tour with Veil of Maya and Periphery . The new album The Human Romance was released in spring 2011.
