Darryl Anthony Tapp (* 13. September 1984 in Portsmouth , Virginia ) is a former American American football poker players. Most recently he played with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the National Football League (NFL) on the position of the defensive end . Since retiring as an active player, he has worked as an assistant coach in college football .

college

Tapp already showed his great athletic talent in high school . He not only played football and basketball , but also excelled as a track and field athlete . He attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) and played for their team, the Hokies, college football , achieving a total of 21.5 sacks .

NFL

Seattle Seahawks

In the 2006 NFL Draft , he was selected in the second round as a 63rd overall by the Seattle Seahawks . In his rookie season he was not only used as a defensive end , but also regularly in the special teams . In the game against the Denver Broncos he managed his first interception , which he was able to use for a touchdown . In the following three seasons he blossomed into a pillar of the Seahawks defense and ran mostly as a starter .

Philadelphia Eagles

In March 2010, Tapp was given to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for Chris Clemons and the 4th round draft right . He also showed solid performance at his new place of work.

Washington Redskins

In 2013 he moved to the Washington Redskins for one season , for which he played eleven games.

Detroit Lions

He played for the Detroit Lions for the next two seasons . He was used in all games and was able to set 43 tackles and achieve 2.5 sacks.

New Orleans Saints

In July 2016, Tapp was signed by the New Orleans Saints after several defenders sustained serious pre-season injuries. He was released on September 3, 2017.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

In late October 2017, he was signed to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers . A month later, Tapp was released again.

Coaching career

In 2018, Tapp began his career as an assistant trainer in college. In 2028 and 2019, he worked as a Quality Control Coach at Central Michigan University and Vanderbilt University , respectively . In 2020 he returned to his alma mater , where he is in charge of the defensive line as an assistant coach .
