Evil III is an American horror film with science fiction elements from 1994 and, after Phantasm II, the sequel to Phantasm . As in the previous parts of the series, Don Coscarelli directed . While James LeGros played the role of Mike Pearson in the second part , he is now played again by A. Michael Baldwin , who already took over the role in the first part. The Tall Man was embodied again by Angus Scrimm . The film did not come to the cinemas in Germany and was marketed on VHS from September 1994 .

action

The plot of the film starts right where the second part left off. Liz and Mike sit with the Tall Man , a giant who shrinks corpses and brings them to life, only to enslave them in another dimension, in the car, and Reggie is thrown out of the car. Suddenly Reggie, who was first thought dead, moves and gets up. He is attacked by a shrunken corpse, but he can kill it. However, Liz is killed by the shrunken corpses. The Tall Man now wants to kidnap Mike, but Reggie threatens the Tall Man to blow himself and Mike up with a grenade . Since the Tall Man wants Mike alive, he decides to go and wait.

Since Mike was injured, he is taken to the hospital, where he has a near death experience in which he meets his brother Jody, who died in the first part . Mike wakes up to being attacked by a zombie nurse who controls a sphere, a silver bullet that can shoot weapons and other items, in her head. Reggie can come in time and kill the nurse.

Later, when Reggie and Mike are back home, Jody appears. Mike is completely confused because he has his brother believed to be dead in front of him. It turns out that Jody is trapped in a sphere and can change his form from that of a human to that of a sphere. When the Tall Man suddenly appears, Jody transforms into a sphere and wants to attack the Tall Man. The latter is unimpressed and makes Jody glow until he falls to the floor. Then the Tall Man kidnaps Mike. The weakened Jody, still in the shape of a sphere, mumbles the word "Holtsville".

Reggie discovers that Holtsville is an abandoned city, home to the largest Gothic mausoleum in the United States , and where the Tall Man killed everyone and turned them into shrunken corpses. Reggie goes there with the "Jody Sphere". There Reggie meets a gang of crooks consisting of the seductive Edna, the daring Rufus and Henry. The three steal his car and lock it in the trunk. Now the three crooks are looking for a house in which they can live. You will quickly find what you are looking for when you find a large house that appears to have been abandoned. But in the house there lives a little boy named Tim who has a lot of weapons. He kills the three crooks and frees Reggie from the trunk. Tim tells Reggie that the Tall Man killed his parents and the rest of the town's residents. Reggie takes Tim with her and works with him to find the Tall Man and Mike.

In the mausoleum the two meet the Afro-American soldiers Rocky and Tanesha. Tanesha is killed by a sphere that digs into her head. Tim can shoot the sphere with a pistol because he is very good at handling weapons. Reggie and Tim take Rocky with them.

Reggie finds Rocky very attractive, but her attempts at picking up fail. One night the "Jody Sphere" moves and Jody invades Reggie's dreams. Reggie is dreaming that he has anal sex with Rocky and is now disturbed by Jody. Reggie follows Jody and is led by him to the Tall Man's hiding place and thus to Mike. You free Mike and are able to escape the Tall Man after a short chase.

Now the three follow Tall Man's trail to the town of Boulton . When they arrive at the Boulton Morgue, they find a freezer that reminds Mike that the Tall Man can't stand the cold. Mike lets the "Jody Sphere" penetrate his subconscious and learns that the Tall Man puts the brains of the shrunken corpses into the spheres, which controls the spheres. The tall man needs the shrunken corpses to assemble an army with which he wants to conquer alien universes. The Tall Man suddenly senses Mike's presence and ties him to a stretcher.

In the meantime, Reggie, Rocky and Tim are attacked by Edna, Rufus and Henry, who were brought to life by the Tall Man and are now zombies. Finally, Reggie and Rocky can use a nunchuck to get rid of the three zombies. But Tim was also tied to a stretcher by Tall Man.

The Tall Man now wants to make it clear to Mike that he should recognize who he really is. It seems that Mike is not human. Tim is released from the "Jody Sphere" and can get to Mike. Mike talks confused and says to Tim “There are still thousands of them.” Tim can't figure it out and Mike suddenly realizes that there is something metallic under his skin and he has yellow blood just like the Tall Man .

Reggie and Rocky can now lock the Tall Man in a freezer, where it will freeze solid. Mike suddenly has silver eyeballs and has to go outside because of the extreme cold in the mausoleum. Reggie goes after him, but Mike tells him to stay away.

In the end, Reggie goes back to the morgue to see Tim, who finds out that the Tall Man has escaped. When he tries to tell Reggie, he sees that Spheren is holding him to the wall. Reggie tells Tim to run away and that it's over, but suddenly the Tall Man appears and ends the film with the sentence "It's never over!"

criticism

  • The New York Times calls this part of the series the weakest of them all. The reviewer praised the special effects, but the film answered all the wrong questions and none of the right ones.
