The rascal and the Bull (Original title: Il Trucido e lo sbirro ) is an Italian thriller from 1976. In that of Umberto Lenzi staged poliziotteschi play Claudio Cassinelli and Tomas Milian the leading roles. The film opened in Italy on August 28, 1976 and grossed 509,747,000 lire, making it the 34th most successful Italian film of 1976. Tomas Milian became the star of the genre through the film. A series of films with similar roles followed for Milian.

In Rome, the work of the police is heavily criticized by the press. The millionaire daughter Camilla was kidnapped by the gang boss Brescianelli, and the police are unable to report any success in their search. Commissario Sarti wants to save the little girl and has little time. Camilla has severe kidney disease and urgently needs dialysis . Brescianelli is said to be unrecognizable after a facial operation. Bad prospects for the police, but Sarti has an unusual idea.

In a Roman prison, the inmates sit together at the cinema. The staff and inmates are distracted. Commissario Sarti uses this moment to kidnap the city-famous thief Monnezza. With the help of Monnezza, Sarti wants to investigate the kidnapping of little Camilla and arrest Brescianelli. The kidnapping is successful, but Monnezza initially has no interest in participating in Sarti's plan. But Sarti lures with easing of detention and a shortening of the prison term.

The perpetrators Vallelunga, Calabrese and Mario were discovered early by the police in a raid on a Ferrovie dello Stato train . The three perpetrators manage to escape. Monnezza contacts them and spreads the legend that Brescianelli had betrayed their coup to the police. The troop wants to take revenge on Brescianelli and is now working with Sarti and Monnezza. By researching the underworld, they find out where Brescianelli and the kidnapping victims are hiding. Together they surprise the gangsters. Several of Brescianelli's people died in gunfire. But Brescianelli and the girl Camilla cannot be found.

Brescianelli wants to give Monnezza a lesson and kill his brother. He shows up with his people at the local milk factory, but a work colleague is accidentally killed instead of Monnezza's brother.

By chance, Calabrese discovers that Sarti is a police officer. However, Monnezza can defuse the situation. Sarti finds out that one could learn more about Brescianelli through the "French", but he is meanwhile in custody. Monnezza and Sarti gain access to the French through clever feinting. He tells them that Brescianelli's friend Mara is in town. Monnezza and Sarti manage to arrest Mara in their apartment. Now all they have to do is watch Breschianelli appear.

In the end, Sarti and his men manage to find Brescianelli's new hiding place. There is heavy fighting here. Sarti manages to free Camilla. Mario, Calabrese, Brescianelli and his men die in the fighting.
