The two seniors Erwin Michels and Günther Schlüter were close friends until one of them had taken the other off the wife. Günther's wife is now dead and Erwin is divorced for the second time. After 30 years of silence, the two establish contact again. Erwin was the owner of a car dealership for years, but today he only offers his very own chauffeur service in a white Mercedes limousine. This old-timer, however, belongs to his old friend Günther, from whom he would love to buy the car. In addition to these “professional” contacts, they are no longer “independent” in their private lives, because Günther's daughter married Erwin's son more than 12 years ago and their grandchild, Charlotte, is already showing technical talent in Opi Günter's car workshop. Grandpa Erwin does her math homework for it.
When the new pharmacist Anita Lorenz shows up in town, Erwin and Günther are immediately taken with the attractive and educated woman. Erwin immediately takes the initiative and invites Anita to a picnic. On the other hand, Güther invited her to dinner that he cooked for her himself. Both men now become competitors again and get into an argument about it. Only later do you have to realize that this was completely unnecessary, because the brisk Anita constantly decides on another companion at her side.
The marriage of Erwin's son and Günther's daughter is not going well at the moment. Since Paula has been back to work, the two not only see each other less, Paula's new boss keeps making advances, which Thomas did not miss. However, he does not convey his outbursts of jealousy to Paula particularly elegantly. So her fathers forge a plan to bring the two closer together again. Erwin first buys a bouquet of flowers that he has Thomas bring to Paula in the name of Thomas. Meanwhile, Günther books a holiday trip for the two of them as a surprise, but this plan goes wrong and breaks the marriage even more. It even goes so far that Paula moves in with her father without further ado. Charlotte is now afraid that her parents will divorce. In her desperation, she not only skips school, but simply takes the white Mercedes and drives the car through the city at the age of 12. Fortunately, she is discovered by Kalle, her grandfather's apprentice, who brings both the child and the car back to Günther.
Erwin and Günther make a new attempt to bring Paula and Thomas closer to each other again. They lure the two of them into the city palace, which is open to the public as a museum, and lock them up in one of the rooms. Here they leave her alone for the next three hours, so that Paula and Thomas have to talk to each other and cannot avoid each other as usual. This time the small conspiracy succeeds and family happiness is back on track.
