Klaus Hansen is on his yacht with his partner Marion Dollinger. He ensures that Marion, on whom he has taken out high life insurance, goes overboard and simply drives on. Marion, who was wearing a life jacket, is rescued by the Amadea and her captain Burger after more than 28 hours in the water and goes with them to Macau . There she is received by her husband, who lies cheekily to her face. Marion, who has a slight suspicion, persuades Klaus that they should go back home with the Amadea . After Marion learned in a phone call that her company was broke through her husband's fault, Klaus is determined to push his wife overboard and make it look like suicide, but Captain Burger can thwart this plan at the last moment .
Little Max Jensen won the cruise on the Amadea in a reading competition. Together with his mother Anna, who is divorced from his father, he starts the journey. When Anna found out shortly before leaving that her friend Vera could not come along - as planned - because of an illness, she suddenly no longer wanted to drive. But it's too late, the ship has already cast off. Later it turns out that Anna is illiterate and nobody except Vera knows this, not even her son. She always finds excuses to hide her weakness. Ship's doctor Dr. However, Sander cannot fool her during an investigation. On the trip, mother and son meet the book author Daniel Sebaldt. Both feel drawn to each other and Max gets on exceptionally well with Daniel. But Anna is afraid of being illiterate with an author of all people. After she got into trouble in the sea during an excursion in Macau because she could not read the warning sign "Strong current" and could be rescued by Max and Daniel at the last moment, Dr. Sander to tell her son her secret. This she finally does and a little later takes the courage to tell Daniel about her handicap and at the same time confess her love to him.
Ship cleaner Nadja is with a colleague from the kitchen, the Korean Kim. Marco Reuter, new on board as catering manager , takes advantage of his position to fire Kim by blaming him for an open door to the refrigerator, although it is not clear who left the door open. There is a damage of 10,000 € because most of the food has become inedible. Marco Reuter is entrusted by the captain with the task of buying new groceries in Macau and receives the necessary € 10,000. Reuter, who used to be addicted to gambling, cannot pass one of the cities known for its casinos. However, he manages to resist the temptation to gamble and almost escapes the casino. In doing so, however, the envelope with the money falls down, which Nadja, who is at the casino at the same time, picks up. She gives Kim the money on the pretext that it is from her family because he needs it to buy his brother out. However, Kim suspects that something is wrong with the money and does not want to accept it. After captain Burger was allowed to view the surveillance videos of the casino, everything is clear to him, but he waits and there is actually an opportunity at which Nadja confesses to the captain of the theft and gives the money back. Kim and Nadja and Marco can ultimately continue to work on the ship.
