Date A Live ( Japanese デ ー ト ・ ア ・ ラ イ ブ Dēto A Raibu ) is a Japanese light novel series by Kōshi Tachibana and illustrated by Tsunako . The work has also been adapted into several manga , anime series, anime feature films and computer games.

action

Thirty years ago, large parts of Eurasia were devastated by a space quake that cost 150 million lives. Since then, these earthquakes have appeared again and again worldwide, albeit on a much smaller scale, and have destroyed cities. When the student Shidō Itsuka tries to rescue his sister during a space quake evacuation, who according to GPS is in the area to be evacuated, he meets a strange girl in a crater. From his little sister Kotori he learns that the girl is a “nature spirit” ( 精 霊 , seirei ) and that the earthquakes are a side effect when they change into our world. The Seirei themselves each have different powers and weapons, which are called "angels" ( 天使 , tenshi ) and are named after archangels associated with the Sephiroth or, if the Seirei "invert" with anger, after their counterparts of the demons associated with the Qliphoth , as well as a "divine-will-spirit garment" ( 神威 霊 装 ) called protective clothing, which is named depending on a Kabbalistic divine name in Sephiroth.

Kotori herself is the commander of the highly developed airship Fraxinus of the organization Ratatoskr , which wants to try to neutralize the Seirei in a peaceful way , whereby Shidō for unknown reasons has the ability to seal the powers of a Seirei when he kisses it, and he now takes care of it must make the Seirei fall in love with him. The opponents are the Anti Spirit Team (AST) of the Japanese Ground Self-Defense Forces , which is trying to eliminate the Seirei by force, the deadly weapon manufacturer Deus Ex Machina Industry (DEM), as well as a mysterious phantom called being responsible for the Seirei seems.

characters

main characters

Shidō Itsuka ( 五 河 士 道 , Itsuka Shidō )
Speaker: Nobunaga Shimazaki
Shidō is the protagonist of the plot. He was abandoned as a child and later adopted by the Itsuka family, which is one reason he wants to help with the Seirei . He has the ability to seal the powers of a Seirei with a kiss , provided that he trusts or loves him enough. Likewise, this effect loses its effect if the relationship between the two or the state of mind of the Seirei deteriorates. In addition, by absorbing the forces, he himself receives a small part of the abilities, which manifests itself in particular in the fact that his wounds are wrapped in flames and healed like a phoenix after serious injuries, after which he sealed Kotori years ago.
The Seirei is convinced by talking to them, while the Fraxinus monitors the Seirei's state of mind and, based on this, their computer makes several more or less meaningful dialogue suggestions about the, like in a dating sim or Ren'ai adventure Fraxinus crew, which he will then be informed of.
Tōka Yatogami ( 夜 刀 神 十 香 , Yatogami Tōka )
Speaker: Marina Inoue
Tōka is the first Seirei that Shidō meets. Since she herself had no memory of who she was or, like the other Seirei, why she appeared on earth, she received her first name from him on the day of her first date with Shidō, a 10th of the month ( tōka ), and later from Pure her surname, which literally means "night sword god". She is assigned to the 10th aspect, Malchuth ("royal dignity"), of Sephiroth, and her "angel" thus Sandalphon (鏖 殺 公サ ン ダ ル フ ォ ン, written: "Massakerfürst"), which has the shape of a long sword and a throne as a sword scabbard, but changes to Volume 7 when she is overwhelmed by anger to the 10th Nahemah associated with Qliphoth counter- aspect (暴虐 公ナ ヘ マ ー, written: "Prince of Violence"), while her robe Adonai Melech (神威 霊 装 ・ 十 番ア ド ナ イ ・ メ レ ク, written: “divine will-spirit garment No. 10”, read: “Lord and King” - the 10th name of God) means. Tōka has long black hair and a naive and gullible disposition. After her powers have been sealed, she visits Shidō's school class to be around him, where she is dog and cat with origami.
Origami Tobiichi ( 鳶 一 折紙 , Tobiichi Origami )
Speaker: Misuzu Togashi
Origami is Shidō's classmate. She has white, short hair, is sporty, intelligent and has an expressionless, almost apathetic expression. In contrast, her obsession with Shidō, of whom she knows the smallest details, and when he visits her at her home, she prepares energy drinks for the "night" as well as chloroform and handcuffs for "emergencies". After her parents had been killed by a Seirei five years earlier , she hates them and therefore joined the Anti Spirit Team of the Japanese Army, of which she is one of the best members, switched to DEM in Volume 9, as it gave her greater freedom of action and better Promised equipment. Since even this was enough Toka to defeat them is finally in band 10 a pact with the ghost of yourself to take a Seirei to be, then travels with Kurumis aid in the past for their parents to save, only to ironically even those Seirei to be who was responsible for their death. It is assigned to the 1st aspect, Kether ("crown"), of the Sephiroth. Your "angel" is Metatron (絶滅 天使メ タ ト ロ ン, written: "Angel of Extinction") in the form of a crown with which she works light magic, and her robe Ehyeh (神威 霊 装 ・ 一番エ ヘ イ エ ー , read: " I am " - the 1st name of God). In Volume 11 she inverts the Qliphoth counter-aspect Thamiel and her "angel" to Satan (救世 魔王サ タ ン, written: "Redemption devil").
Kotori Itsuka ( 五 河 琴 里 , Itsuka Kotori )
Speaker: Ayana Taketatsu
Kotori is Shidō's 14-year-old younger stepsister. She has two personalities: a "little sister mode" ( 妹 モ ー ド ) called, in which she wears white ribbons, she is affectionate and naive, and then switches to the "commander mode " ( 司令官 モ ー ド ) in which she wears a black ribbon pointed tongue, shows slightly arrogant, but very competent behavior. She is in command of the Fraxinus , having been made a Seirei by the Phantom five years ago . It is the 5th aspect, Gevurah ("power") or Din ("justice"), assigned with Camael (灼 爛 殲 鬼カ マ エ ル, written: "hot, burning, destructive demon") as an "angel" who appears in the form of a halberd with whom she commands the flames, while her kimono robe Elohim Gibor (神威 霊 装 ・ 五 番エ ロ ヒ ム ・ ギ ボ ー ル, read: "God Almighty" - the 5th name of God).

She is assigned to the 4th aspect, Chesed ("Kindness, Love") and her "Angel" is Zadkiel (氷 結 傀儡ザ ド キ エ ル, written: "Freezing doll") in the form of a large, all-freezing rabbit doll, whereby it never wants to harm its opponents and therefore uses it purely defensively. In contrast to the other Seirei , she has no problems
finding her way around the human world. Kurumi has an aggressive, albeit playful, character and has already killed thousands of people with her own hand to take their time, although she limits this to "bad people" when, for example, she shot four children who tortured a cat with an air rifle. It is assigned to the 3rd aspect associated with the left eye, Binah ("will, insight"), and "angel" is its Zaphkiel (刻 々 帝ザ フ キ エ ル, written: “Second-for-second emperor”) is a huge clock with muskets as clock hands with which it can fire twelve different bullets with different effects: Aleph to accelerate their target, Beth to slow down, Daleth to turn back its time, Zayin to stopping his time, Heth to repeat a past version, Yud to look into his past, and Yud Beth to bring her goal into the past. Heth uses her to create a multitude of clones of her former selves, which allows her to do the work, acquire enough time / energy to go back 30 years with Yud Beth , kill the first Seirei and prevent the following events. Kurumi is the only one for whom the Fraxinus' plans do not work, although she takes a liking to Shidō.

Both always compete with each other, whereby Shidō came to clutch, which was the hundredth all-important competition, who can seduce him first. Both form the 8th aspect, Hod ("majesty; thunder") with the "angel" Raphael (颶風 騎士ラ フ ァ エ ル, written: "Hurricane Knight") with which they work lightning and wind magic. Taking advantage of her predicament, the Phantom offered her to become a Seirei in order to regain her voice, which she accepted to start a career as a singer again. Due to the incident with the producer, she developed a hatred of people and especially men and only surrounds herself with girls so that Shidō had to seduce her disguised as a girl. Miku is assigned to the 9th aspect, Jesod ("foundation stone"), and her weapon appears as a pipe organ called Gabriel (破 軍歌 姫ガ ブ リ エ ル, written: "Traveling war song princess"), with which she can brainwash, reinforce or attack her listeners. When she thinks that Shidō has discovered her secret, she threatens him, and attributes the friendliness of the other Seirei to ulterior motives until she is finally convinced of their actions and Shidō has them sealed. As the seventh aspect of Sephiroth, Nezach ("eternity"), you are the "angel" Haniel (贋 造 魔女ハ ニ エ ル, written: "Fake witch"), which appears as a broom and with which she can change the shape of people and things at will, while her robe with a witch hat adonai Tzabaoth (神威 霊 装 ・ 七 番ア ド ナ イ ・ ツ ァ バ オ ト, read: "Lord of hosts" - the 7th name of God).
