David J. Archibald (born April 14, 1969 in Chilliwack , British Columbia ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and current coach , who worked for the Minnesota North Stars , New York Rangers , Ottawa Senators and among others from 1983 to 2000 New York Islanders played in the National Hockey League and the Frankfurt Lions in the German Ice Hockey League .

Career

Dave Archibald began his career as a hockey player with the Portland Winter Hawks , for whom he was active from 1983 to 1987 in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League . In 1987 he received the Brad Hornung Trophy as the fairest athletic player in the WHL's Western Conference. He was then selected in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft in the first round as the sixth player by the Minnesota North Stars . For the North Stars, the winger made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 1987/88 season . In his rookie year , he scored 13 goals and 20 assists in 78 games. On November 1, 1989, he was given in exchange for Jay More to the New York Rangers . In the 1989/90 season he completed a total of 19 games in the NHL for the New York Rangers, but spent most of the season with their farm team Flint Spirits in the International Hockey League . From 1990 to 1992 he took part in Team Canada preparation for the Olympic Games.

From 1992 to 1996 Archibald was active for the newly formed Ottawa Senators in the NHL. In his last year with the Senators, he also played 19 games for the IHL team Utah Grizzlies . The Canadian began the 1996/97 season with the New York Islanders . After seven pointless missions in the NHL, he was signed by the Frankfurt Lions from the German Ice Hockey League . For Hessen he scored 36 scorer points in a total of 43 games, including 14 goals. From 1997 to 1999 played for one year each in the IHL for the San Antonio Dragons and his ex-team Utah Grizzlies. The 1999/2000 season began for the 1992 Olympian at Linköpings HC in the Swedish Elitserien . There he dissolved his contract prematurely in February 2000 to switch to the Utah Grizzlies in the IHL. At the end of the season, he ended his career at the age of 31.

In the 2009/10 season Archibald worked as an assistant coach for the Chilliwack Bruins from the junior league Western Hockey League.

International

For Canada , Archibald took part in the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville , where he won the silver medal with his team. He himself was the top scorer of the tournament with seven goals along with three other players. He had previously won the silver medal with Canada at the 1991 World Cup .
