David Ketterer (born June 22, 1993 in Donaueschingen ) is a German ski racer . He specializes in the disciplines of slalom and giant slalom .

biography

Ketterer comes from Hochemmingen in the Black Forest-Baar district . He learned to ski at the age of three and took part in races for the first time at the age of nine. On September 5, 2005, his brother Samuel died in the cable car accident in Sölden , in which Thomas Dreßen's father was also killed. From December 2008 Ketterer started at FIS races and specialized in slalom and giant slalom very early on. His first appearance in the European Cup followed in November 2012. At the Junior World Championship in 2014 , he won the bronze medal in the team competition .

In the 2014/15 season Ketterer could not contest any races and in the following winter his development stagnated. Because of this, he moved to the United States in August 2016 , enrolled at the University of Colorado Boulder , and began studying engineering physics . As a member of the Colorado Buffaloes University team , Ketterer was very successful. He became slalom and giant slalom champion of the National Collegiate Athletic Association in the 2016/17 season and won the slalom classification in the Nor-Am Cup with five wins . Due to the unexpected increase in performance, the German Ski Association took him back into the squad.

Ketterer made his World Cup debut on January 27, 2017 in the slalom on the Ganslernhang in Kitzbühel , where he finished 45th. He won his first World Cup points on December 10th, 2017 when he finished 26th in the slalom of Val-d'Isère . His best result so far is 18th place in the slalom in Saalbach-Hinterglemm on December 20th, 2018.
