David Reutzius

David Reutzius (also Reuss or Reutz ) (born April 3, 1576 in Rostock , † August 11, 1634 in Stettin ) was a Lutheran theologian and long-time general superintendent of Pomerania-Stettin.

David Reutzius was born as the son of the pastor Matthäus Reutzius at the Nikolaikirche in Rostock and his wife Anna Alberta son.

Reutzius spent his childhood in different places, where he also received a wide variety of schooling, such as in the Dutch town of Woerden , in Austria and especially in Carinthia and finally in Görlitz .

In 1595, on the advice of his brother Erasmus, who was Danish chancellor, he went to Güstrow , from there to Lüneburg , and in 1598 he returned to his native Rostock, where he enrolled in his studies.

After a short stopover in Wittenberg , he received his master's degree in Rostock in 1603.

At the suggestion of Duchess Anna of Mecklenburg, who was born in Pomerania, Reutzius was in 1604 by Duke Bogislaw XIII. appointed court preacher at the castle church in Stettin . He held this office for 14 years.

In 1618 Duke Franz appointed him , confirmed after his death by Duke Bogislaw XIV. , To the post of General Superintendent of Pomerania-Stettin, which had not been occupied since the death of D. Jakob Faber in 1613.

Reutzius held this office with great devotion and spiritual commitment until his death at the age of 69. His successor was D. Jakob Fabricius .

In 1604 David Reutzius married Martha Bünsow († 1618) from Rostock in his first marriage, and in 1619 Regina Raphun from Gollnow .
