David Rutherford (born April 30, 1987 in Ladner , British Columbia ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who last played for the Belfast Giants in the Elite Ice Hockey League .

Career

David Rutherford began his career as a hockey player in the Canadian Junior League British Columbia Hockey League , in which he was active from 2003 to 2005 for the Chilliwack Chiefs and Surrey Eagles. For the 2005/06 season , the winger moved to the top junior division Western Hockey League , where he immediately won the Ed Chynoweth Cup , the WHL championship title, with the Vancouver Giants . From 2006 to 2008 he played for their league rivals Spokane Chiefs , with whom he also won the Ed Chynoweth Cup in the 2007/08 season . He also prevailed with his team in the final tournament for the championship of the Canadian Hockey League , the Memorial Cup .

The 2008/09 season began Rutherford with the Charlotte Checkers in the ECHL and ended it with their league rivals Phoenix Roadrunners . He then played for two years for the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs , with whom he won the Miron Cup in the 2010/11 season . In the same season he took part in the All-Star Game of the Central Hockey League. For the 2011/12 season , the Canadian was signed by the Florida Everblades from the ECHL, but in the 2013 season he was also used by their cooperation partner Charlotte Checkers in the higher-class American Hockey League . From 2013 to 2015 he played for various clubs of the ECHL and the CHL before moving to the United Kingdom. There he initially played with the Edinburgh Capitals in the Elite Ice Hockey League , but switched to league rivals Belfast Giants in January 2016 .
