David Rytz von Brugg (born April 1, 1801 in Bucheggberg , † March 25, 1868 in Aarau ) was a Swiss mathematician and teacher .

Life

Rytz von Brugg was the son of a pastor and studied mathematics in Göttingen and Leipzig . He held teaching positions in various places, including from 1835 to 1862 in Aarau, where he was "Professor of Mathematics at the Aarau Trade School" .

Services

Rytz von Brugg is known for the Rytz axis construction that goes back to him . This classic geometric construction method makes it possible to construct the major and minor axes of an arbitrary pair of conjugate diameters of an ellipse . The process has been known since 1845 when it was published in a paper by Leopold Moosbrugger .
