Day of Triumph is an American film from 1954 and is based on Jesus Christ .

action

The Roman Empire brought almost the whole world under its rule. In Eretz Israel it is above all the Zealots who want to put an end to Roman rule. When a group of conspirators around Zadok, the leader of the Zealots, can barely save themselves from the Roman soldiers, Zadok declares the resistance to have failed. Together with his like-minded followers, the disciples of Jesus, he remembers the beginnings of the resistance, which began with his following John the Baptist three years earlier .

A little later, Jesus, who was baptized by John, gathers his first disciples around him. He interprets the Torah and heals the sick. Zadok comes to believe that Jesus could be useful in resisting the Romans. Zadok's followers, Simon Petrus and Judas Iscariot , are impressed by Jesus' teaching on charity and forgiveness. After a messiah has failed so often, Zadok initially doubts whether the goodness for which Jesus stands can free his people. Zadok urges Judas to convince him to revolt against the Romans. In the meantime, Jesus is increasingly viewed as a troublemaker by the high priests .

Even Mary Magdalene is convinced after initial doubts of Jesus after Jesus healed the mother of her servant and Mary Magdalene has forgiven their sins.

A little later, Barabbas' camp is attacked by the Romans and Barabbas arrested. Judas wants to carry out Zadok's order to free Barabbas on the approaching Passover festival . After Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, Judas and Zadok came to the conclusion that Jesus had supernatural abilities but was still human; even if he was not the promised Messiah, he could fill the role of King of the Jews.

On his entry into Jerusalem , Jesus reacts depressed when he is praised by the people as King of the Jews; Zadok and Judas see their project as a failure. When Jesus drives the traders out of the temple , the high priests decide to eliminate him.

In contrast to Zadok, Judas is unwilling to give up and betrays Judas because he feels deceived by Jesus. At the Last Supper , Jesus foresaw that it would be Judas who would betray him. In the garden of Gethsemane , Judas betrays Jesus with a kiss . Jesus is found guilty by the Sanhedrin and is to be sentenced to death by Pontius Pilate . Pilate questions Jesus, but finds no guilt in him. He lets the people decide whether Jesus or the criminal Barabbas should be released for Passover; this decides for Barabbas. Pilate condemns Jesus to death.

Jesus is crucified on Golgotha . There is only one of the two thieves holding on to him. After darkness falls over the land, Jesus dies on the cross.

Zodak sums up that Jesus' death on the cross two days earlier had shown himself not to be the Messiah but rather a mortal, and sees the mission as a failure. But then he and the disciples present learn that Jesus' body has disappeared, but do not suspect that Jesus has risen again. When Jesus comes before her face, the disciples present recognize him as the Messiah.
