Lawrence Dobkin

Lawrence Dobkin (born September 16, 1919 in New York , † October 28, 2002 in Los Angeles ) was an American actor , film director , film producer and screenwriter . Dobkin primarily appeared in front of the camera, but has also directed several television series.

Life

Dobkin was a popular speaker in radio plays of the 1940s, 50s and 60s, and made a name for himself as the voice of taxi driver Louie in the long-lived radio drama series The Saint . From 1949 he took on increasingly smaller roles in movies, where he appeared in various productions, including as a doctor, lawyer and psychiatrist. However, he remained faithful to speaking until the end of his life, for example as a narrator in films and in the synchronization of video games.

He took on bigger roles on television, where he mostly played the role of the villain. In 1968 he was nominated for an Emmy in the category of Best Supporting Actor for his acting performance in a television movie on the CBS Playhouse . From the 1960s onwards, he concentrated on working behind the camera and directed numerous television series. In 1972 he took over the direction of his first and only feature film, the drama Sixteen .

Until 2001, he made guest appearances on television series such as For All Cases Amy and NYPD Blue . In October 2002 he died of heart failure .

Dobkin was married twice - first with colleague Joanna Barnes , from 1970 with Anne Collings , with whom he had three children.
