Dedo Otto Eberhard Kersten von Schenck (born April 29, 1922 , † February 21, 1975 in Bonn) was a German lawyer and diplomat who was last head of the legal department of the Foreign Office between 1972 and 1975 .

Life

Dedo von Schenck studied law and completed his doctorate as Dr. jur. at the University of Hamburg on December 12, 1950 with a dissertation with the title The concept of the "sphere" in jurisprudence, in particular as the basis for damage attribution . He then joined the Foreign Service and, after completing his training as an attaché, found various positions at the headquarters of the Foreign Office in Bonn and at missions abroad . In March and April 1961 he took over alongside Carl Werner Dankwort , Carl-Hermann Mueller-Graaf , Hermann Meyer-Lindenberg , Heinrich Grützner , Heribert Mast , Edgar Schwörbel , Wolfram Hucke , Johannes von Vacano and Friedrich Kroneck at a UN conference in Vienna diplomatic relations and immunity. In April 1964 he took part in talks on establishing diplomatic relations with Czechoslovakia as counselor for the Legation alongside Kurt Luedde-Neurath , who was then head of the Eastern Europe Department, Rudolf Jestaedt , Gisela Rheker and Renate Finke-Osiander . In 1965, as a lecturer in the first class of the Legation Council, he was head of Section V 1 International Law and International Treaties.

In 1966 von Schenck, who worked for some time as a lawyer in Frankfurt am Main , switched to business and was head of the legal department at Friedrich Krupp AG in Essen until 1969 . In this position he acted alongside Berthold Beitz and Arndt von Bohlen and Halbach, among other things, as executor of the last sole owner of Krupp AG, Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach, who died on July 30, 1967 .

Von Schenck then returned to the Federal Foreign Office and was initially head of the department for international law and advisor for international law . In this function, he held talks with the government of the People's Republic of Poland about the Oder-Neisse border in February 1970 and tried to prove that the regulations on the Oder-Neisse border made in the Potsdam Agreement of August 2, 1945 were not final . In addition, he emphasized that the Federal Republic of Germany did not have a sole right of decision for the whole of Germany on this border issue, which was equivalent to recognizing the GDR . Most recently, he was head of the legal department of the Foreign Office from 1972 until his death in 1975.

His son Kersten von Schenck is also a lawyer, member of the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation and the Supervisory Board of ThyssenKrupp .
