Demian von Osten (* 1983 in Bonn ) is a German journalist and Moscow correspondent for ARD .

Career

After the Abitur at Gymnasium an der Stadtmauer in Bad Kreuznach from the east to the studied Mannheim University political science and business administration , he spent two semesters at the University of Lyon III in France .

During his studies, von Osten was the news editor at Dasding , the young radio station for Südwestrundfunk . Internships led him to RTL in Frankfurt am Main , the ZDF studio in Paris and the German Press Agency (dpa) in Berlin . After completing his studies, von Osten began a journalistic traineeship at Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR). During his traineeship, he reported for the Tagesschau as well as for the Tagesthemen from the ARD studio in Brussels .

Later he worked as a freelance reporter and author for the ARD morning magazine , the Tagesschau and Arte . In this role, he reported from numerous countries, including the unrest in Egypt (2013). One focus of his work has been the war in Ukraine since 2014 . Von Osten witnessed the bloody events on the Maidan live and later reported on the annexation of Crimea .

From September 2014 Demian von Osten worked for the investigative department of Westdeutscher Rundfunk with publications for the research network of NDR, WDR and Süddeutscher Zeitung. With Michael Wech and Ralph Hötte he created a 45-minute documentary about the shooting down of flight MH17 over eastern Ukraine. This resulted in numerous other products for online, radio, television and for the Süddeutsche Zeitung.

In June 2015 Demian von Osten became a permanent domestic correspondent for the Tagesschau based in Cologne . In the following years he reported on numerous major events in North Rhine-Westphalia and represented foreign correspondents in the ARD studios in Paris, Washington, DC , New York and Moscow.

Since May 1, 2018 Demian von Osten has been the successor to Golineh Atai ARD television correspondent in Moscow.

Activity as a media trainer

Demian von Osten has been working as a media trainer in the field of online research, social media and verification since 2012. He also trained foreign correspondents for ARD and ZDF.

Demian von Osten speaks German, English, French, Spanish and Russian and has advanced knowledge of Portuguese and Arabic.
