geography

course

The Dentelbach arises in the course of its name at about 485  m above sea level. NHN in the wooded Tobel Gorge approx. 1.2 km north of Spiegelberg-Großhöchberg. The start of the run is one of the small waterfalls that are very common in the parlor sandstone of the surrounding landscape, over a grotto in softer sandstone that has been washed out underneath. The brook flows from this origin, which is made accessible by a hiking path, partly under rocks, just under a kilometer to the west until it reaches about 383  m above sea level. The Bodenbach flows into NHN from approximately north-northeast , the somewhat longer right source branch from its own forest blade.

From there, the Dentelbach runs in a roughly south-westerly to south-westerly direction through a narrow forest blade, into which the K 1819 from the hamlet of Vorderbüchelberg enters the valley after about 200 meters on the right, open plateau. This road now follows the brook near the left bank to the mouth. After another 200 meters, the Waldenbach flows out of a right side crag, the left slope of which is partly used by the road. About 400 meters further on, the Klingenbach flows in from the other side, the last of the large tributaries forming the Klingen.

Below, a clearing strip opens briefly on the right lower slope. About 400 meters before the end of the run, the forest on the right-hand side goes up to the now quite low spur on this side, the last is about 330  m above sea level. NHN a pond close to the right bank. Finally the Dentelbach flows out at 328  m above sea level. NHN between Spiegelberg-Eisenlautern and Spiegelberg itself from the left and finally north-northeast into the middle "Spiegelberger" Lauter , a few steps before the also left confluence of the stream from the Alder Blade into it.

The Dentelbach, which flows under a mean slope of about 47 ‰ and is 3.4 km long from the source in the Tobel Gorge, flows about 157 meters below it.

Catchment area

The Dentelbach has a 4.3 km² catchment area, which lies in the natural area of the Swabian-Franconian Forest Mountains in the sub-area of the south-western Löwensteiner Mountains and borders with its north and north-east side on the neighboring sub-area Hinterer Mainhardter Wald . It extends from the northeasternmost point at the fork in the road east of the Steinberg an den Seewiesen to the confluence about 3.3 km to the southwest, across it it is up to 1.9 km wide.

The highest mountains, 565.7 m above sea level , are at the lower limit of the space  . NHN high, wooded Steinberg in the north, behind whose short ridge the Tiefenbach drains to the upper Fichtenberger Rot , and the 562.5  m above sea level. NHN high, open summit of the Greut , on the section up to the summit of which the Kuhnbach then feeds the drain to the other side a little further down the same Kocher inflow. To the south, the eastern watershed is followed by a mostly open ridge, which has a first maximum at the forest summit of the Schlagbühl ( 524.7  m above sea level ), a second at 530.7  m above sea level. NHN high Flurkuppe east of Großhöchberg, up to which the Fischbach , which runs to the Murr just above the tributary of the Lauter, competes. On this flat hill, the watershed bends to the southwest and runs through the hamlet of Großhöchberg, the drain of which on the opposite side flows over the Krebsbach and then the Siebersbach into the Lauter. A little after the local border before the water reservoir at 539.6  m above sea level. NHN high Kuppe west of the village then competes in the south with the stream from the Erlenklinge , which reaches the Lauter only a few steps after the Dentelbach.

Beyond the right watershed up from the mouth, the short Lauterwaldbach runs to the Lauter up to the top of the open plain ( 497.6  m above sea level ), then the Buchenbach, which is roughly parallel to the Dentelbach, takes over its left tributaries the outflow on the other side of the ridge, which is also a Lauter tributary. On this side the mountain heights are usually lower than on the left watershed; they only reach 500  m above sea level again at Vorderbüchelberg . NHN and only at the south-western foot of the Steinberg again 520  m above sea level. NHN .

The whole area is in the municipality of Spiegelberg , the only places in it are its hamlet Vorderbüchelberg on the northwestern watershed and Großhöchberg on the southeastern, both of which are predominantly within. Around this the ridge heights are open, as well as on the summit of the Greut in the north-northeast and on the above-mentioned plain south-south-west of Vorderbüchelberg, and include fields and meadows, the completely settlement-free, narrow valley only opens into a small meadow gusset near the Lauter. The remaining two thirds of the area is covered with forest.

geology

The catchment area of the Dentelbach is mostly in the Stubensandstein ( Löwenstein Formation ) of the Mittelkeuper . Above this, however, over long stretches of the northern and eastern watershed of marl bands ( Trossingen formation ) of the Mittelkeuper lie peaks in the Black Jurassic with rocks of the Psilonotenton and Angulatensandstein formations . Of these, the Steinberg ( 565.7  m above sea level ) in the north and the Greut ( 562.5  m above sea level ) in the north-northeast are part of the long Schwarzjurakuppe arc on the watershed between Lauter and Murr on this side and Fichtenberger Rot on the other side, which extends from the Löwensteiner Horkenberg to Dexelfeld at the upper Red extends Konhalden Weiler. Upstream of this closer to the Lauter are the Schlagbühl ( 524.7  m above sea level ) and the large and branched knoll around Großhöchberg, which on its western arm near the water reservoir west of the hamlet at 539.6  m above sea level. NHN has its greatest height. Between the main arch in the north and north-northeast and the more southerly heights, two tectonic fault lines run roughly west-east on the axes of the Tobelklinge and the Klinge of the Waldenbachtal, each of which has a deep floe in the south. Especially under the Großhöchberger Scholle there are large landslides on the upper slope.

At the bottom of the valley, the Stubensandstein is replaced by the geologically deeper Upper Bunter Marls ( Mainhardt Formation ) from around the confluence of the Dentelbach and Bodenbach rivers , and from a little before the forest exit to the mouth the stream runs in the even deeper silica sandstone ( Hassberge Formation ).

Five geotopes are identified in the catchment area, from north to south there are the Bodenbachklinge in the Stubensandstein, the Tobelschlucht in the Stubensandstein with Hohlem Stein, a grotto-like rock niche at the upper end of the valley with a waterfall, an embankment on the northern branch of the Großhöchberger Jurakuppe, where the Psilonotenton formation is open-minded, closer to Großhöchberg the Schwarzjura ridge is visible on the upper slope and in an abandoned quarry on the upper valley slope below the water reservoir almost one kilometer west of Großhöchberg, marl with dolomitic lake deposits (dolcretes) is cut.

Nature and protected areas

The left, named upper course of the Dentelbach in the Tobel Gorge as well as the actual right upper course Bodenbach are narrow and rocky blades typical of the landscape of the surrounding Keuperbergland , on the bottom of which the two brooks meander rapidly and in a bed up to two meters wide. Some side blades run towards them, some of which are cut like a gorge and often or always only temporarily carry water. The hollow stone at the beginning of the Dentelbach is a half-cave beneath overhanging erosion-resistant rock, elsewhere there are similar, less spectacular half-caves. Towards the mouth, the Dentelbach is up to four meters wide, it continues to flow in meanders, which are, however, somewhat limited by artificial barriers for the soon-to-be-accompanying district road and there shows approaches to an ash forest on the valley floor or is accompanied by tall herbaceous meadows in two clearings. The side streams Waldenbach and Klingenbach, which flow from the larger secondary blades, are like the two upper reaches mountain streams. After the end of the forest, the Dentelbach is accompanied on its last half kilometer by a strip of alluvial forest with mainly black alder and ash trees .

Natural monuments are the Tobel Gorge with Hohlem Stein, a nearby old parlor sand quarry above it with a pond and the rock gorge of the upper Klingenbach a little north of Großhöchberg.

The Bodenbach Gorge east of Vorderbüchelberg, which is quite inaccessible due to fallen dead wood and its narrowness, is under nature protection. In it, the Bodenbach runs as a one to two meter wide mountain stream with fallen blocks on sandy or rocky ground, often under high and sometimes overhanging rock edges. Numerous mosses and ferns grow under the gaps in the valley forest. At the end of the gorge there are landslides on the slope.

About 300 meters below the Klingenbach tributary, in the still wooded valley there, the Spiegelberger Lautertal landscape protection area begins with side valleys and adjacent areas , which extends in the valley floor and on the lower slope of the stream into the Lautertal, which is also part of the valley.

At the Steinberg and the Greut, the edge gussets of the large Kuhnbachtal water protection area protrude into the catchment area. At Großhöchberg this includes a gusset of the smaller local water protection area Großhöchberger Quelle around the water reservoir close to the eastern edge (!) Of the place .

traffic

The K 1819 runs through the greater part of the Dentelbach valley and connects the hamlet of Vorderbüchelberg with the Spiegelberg municipal seat. In the transverse direction, the valley is a traffic obstacle. A road connecting the hamlets of Vorderbüchelberg and Großhöchberg therefore circles the Bodenbach gorge high on the slope or even on the ridge and also bypasses the Tobel gorge.
