The Atamisqui Department is located in the center of the Santiago del Estero Province in northwest Argentina and is one of the province's 27 administrative units .

It is bordered to the north by the department of San Martín , to the east by the departments of Avellaneda and Salavina , to the south by the departments of Quebrachos and Ojo de Agua and to the west by the department of Loreto .

The capital of the Salavina department is Villa Atamisqui .
