The Aguirre department is located in the southeast of the Santiago del Estero province in northwest Argentina and is one of the province's 27 administrative units .
It is bordered by the Belgrano department to the north, the Santa Fe province to the east, the Rivadavia department to the south and the Miter and Salavina departments to the west .
The capital of the Aguirre department is Pinto .
