The Ojo de Agua department is located in the south of the Santiago del Estero province in northwest Argentina and is one of the province's 27 administrative units .

It is bordered by the departments of Loreto and Atamisqui to the north, the department of Quebrachos to the east, the province of Cordoba to the south and the department of Choya to the west .
