The Departamento Silípica is located in the center of the province of Santiago del Estero in northwest Argentina and is the smallest of the province's 27 administrative units with an area of 1,189 km² .
It borders the Department Capital to the north, the Department of San Martín to the east, the Department of Loreto to the south and the Department of Choya to the west .
The capital of the Silípica Department is Árraga . It has 903 inhabitants (2001, INDEC ) and is 30 km from the provincial capital Santiago del Estero .

history
It is believed that the name Silípica was derived from an Indian tribe called "Silypicas". Silípica was on the trade route from Potosí to Buenos Aires in colonial times and was one of the many post and rest stops along the way.
economy
Cattle, goats, mules and mares are raised in the cattle industry. In agriculture, melon, watermelon, tomato, sweet potato, pumpkin, wheat and cotton are grown.
