The Loreto department is located in the southwest of the Santiago del Estero province in northwest Argentina and is one of the province's 27 administrative units .
It borders in the north with the departments Silípica and San Martín , in the east with the department Atamisqui , in the south with the department Ojo de Agua and in the west with the department Choya .
The capital of the Loreto department is the Loreto of the same name .
