The department of Banda is located in the western center of the province of Santiago del Estero in northwest Argentina and is one of the province's 27 administrative units .

It is bordered by the Jiménez department to the north, the Figueroa department to the east, the Robles and Capital departments to the south, and the Río Hondo department to the west .
