The Libertad Department is located in the east of the Chaco province in northwest Argentina and is one of the province's 25 administrative units .
It borders the Department General Donovan in the northwest , the Department Primero de Mayo in the northeast , the Department San Fernando in the south and the Department Tapenagá in the west .
The capital of the Departamento Libertad is Puerto Tirol , a colony founded by the Welschtirolern (Trentinern).
