The O'Higgins department is located in the center of the Chaco Province in northwest Argentina and is one of 25 administrative units in the province.

It is bordered to the north by the departments of Independencia and Comandante Fernández , to the east by the department of San Lorenzo , to the south by the department of Mayor Luis Jorge Fontana and to the west by the departments of Chacabuco , Nueve de Julio and General Belgrano .

The capital of O'Higgins Department is San Bernardo . It is located 190 kilometers from the provincial capital Resistencia .
