The Primero de Mayo department is located in the east of the Chaco province in northwest Argentina and is one of the province's 25 administrative units .

It is bordered to the north by the Libertador General San Martín department , to the east by the Bermejo department , to the south by the San Fernando department and the province of Corrientes, and to the west by the Libertad , General Donovan and Sargento Cabral departments .

The capital of the Primero de Mayo department is Margarita Belén .
