The Maipú Department is located in the center of the Chaco Province in northwest Argentina and is one of 25 administrative units in the province.

It borders the Department General Güemes in the north, the Libertador General San Martín and Quitilipi Department in the east, the Comandante Fernández and Independencia Department in the south and the Almirante Brown Department in the west .

The capital of the Maipú department is Tres Isletas . It is 250 kilometers from the provincial capital Resistencia and 1,250 kilometers from Buenos Aires .
