The department of Fray Justo Santa María de Oro is located in the extreme southwest of the Chaco Province in northwest Argentina and is one of 25 administrative units in the province.

It borders the Doce de Octubre and Dos de Abril departments to the north, the Mayor Luis Jorge Fontana department to the east, the Santa Fe province to the south and the Santiago del Estero province to the west .
