The Departamento Comandante Fernández is located in the center of the Chaco province in northwest Argentina and is one of 25 administrative units in the province.

It borders the Maipú Department in the north, the Quitilipi Department in the east, the San Lorenzo and O'Higgins Department in the south, and the Independencia Department in the west .

The capital of the Comandante Fernández Department is Presidencia Roque Sáenz Peña . It is 100 kilometers from the provincial capital Resistencia and 1,120 kilometers from Buenos Aires .
