The Bermejo department is located in the far east of the Chaco province in northwest Argentina and is one of 25 administrative units in the province.

It is bordered to the northwest by the Libertador General San Martín department , to the northeast by the Formosa province , to the southeast by Paraguay and the Corrientes province, and to the southwest by the Primero de Mayo department .

The capital of the Bermejo department is La Leonesa . It is located 100 kilometers from the provincial capital Resistencia .
