Boy on a Dolphin ( Boy on a Dolphin ) is an American movie from 1957 with Sophia Loren in the lead role. It was based on a novel by David Divine and was first performed in Germany on April 19, 1957.

Phaedra is a sponge diver who lived with her younger brother Niko, her Albanian friend Rhif and the English alcoholic doctor Dr. Hawkins lives in poor conditions on the Greek island of Hydra . During a dive, she discovers the golden statue of a boy riding a dolphin. She travels to Athens to sell the statue to a wealthy collector whom she eventually finds by chance in the person of Victor Parmalee. Before meeting Parmalee, however, she already told the American archaeologist Dr. James Calder tells.
A rivalry is developing between the unscrupulous collector Parmalee and Calder, as Calder wants to secure the find for science and the Greek people. Initially, Phaedra is mainly interested in the money of the very wealthy Victor and leads Calder astray with several dives on Hydra with repeatedly new alleged sites. Eventually Calder and Phaedra fall in love and the handover of the statue by their meanwhile greedy friend Rhif to Victor fails at the last moment.

Hugo Friedhofer was nominated for the Oscar for the best film music , but could not prevail against Malcolm Arnold with the music for Die Brücke am Kwai .
