action

The blind student Jason "Jace" Newfield moves with his parents from New York to rural Utah . Once there, he tries to cover up his insecurities at the new school with cheeky sayings and his quick-wittedness, which he succeeds, but does not necessarily make him popular. Nevertheless, Mary Beth Rice, appointed by the school, helps him where necessary. Although Jace is a gifted guitarist and drummer, he does not receive any recognition at the new school for this. In his private life, he manages to make friends with Vincent "The Fly" Shue, who is hardly noticed because of his inconspicuousness. Since Jace was an avid basketball player at his old school , he wants to do the same at his new school. But Coach Rice, Mary Beth's father, refuses to do this because he cannot meet the requirements (ground passes and an acoustic position signal on the basket) for the time being. In order to still be able to do sport, Mary Beth suggests that he give it a try with rings . After researching the Internet, Jace finds out that there is no reason for the blind not to wrestle, just a different basic position is necessary. Together with Fly he joins the school team. He and Mary Beth are also getting closer and closer. By dancing, she teaches him the body awareness that is necessary for wrestling.

After initial failures, Jace even manages to get into the team and compete against wrestlers from other schools and win. His behavior also changes when he gets help from the also blind music teacher Mason Wyatt, who often reads him the riot act. By injuring the team's captain, John Lambrix, he takes his place. Lambrix and Jace help each other, Lambrix takes over parts of Jace's training, but Jace helps him in Spanish . He can literally “win” the recognition of the other students in this way. When Lambrix is healthy again, he will be moved to a different class because of his heavier weight, since he gained a few kilograms during his convalescence. So it is up to Jace to compete against Lambrix, until then undefeated feared opponent "T-Rex". This fight is the hardest so far, and the first round goes entirely to "T-Rex". After an injury in Round 2, however, Jace T-Rex can even shoulder, which still does not bring him the victory. Nevertheless, Jace can qualify his team for the state championship, as the points achieved are sufficient for the overall victory (of the team). Mary Beth and Jace celebrate this success by dancing together again.
