German national basketball team (U-18 juniors)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German basketball team of U-18 juniors is Germany's national selection of female youth up to the age of 18 in basketball . This competes in international championships for the German Basketball Federation (DBB) and is currently being trained by Stefan Mienack .

history

The best placement at an international championship for the DBB before reunification was eighth place at the U-19 European Junior Championship (EM) in Perugia in 1986 , which was achieved by a selection with Heike Roth among others . For a selection of young people from the GDR DBV, only one participation is recorded in the online archives; at the European Junior Championships in 1965, the DBV selection landed in ninth place two places before the winless DBB selection in last place. Eighth place in the 1986 DBB selection was confirmed ten years later in 1996 by a selection in the reunited association around Linda Fröhlich . Four years later, in 2000, at the U-18 European Championship in Cetniewo, a selection including Martina Weber and Alexandra Müller even came seventh. Subsequently, the U-18 selection only got double-digit placings at tournaments of FIBA Europe , before being relegated in 2007 as penultimate from Division A of the 16 best European selections.

The tournament victory in Division B and promotion was only achieved ten years later in 2017, half of which already consisted of the 2000 class, who had become vice European champion as a U-16 selection a year earlier . As a climber, the 2000/01 vintage was able to win a European championship title in the junior division for the DBB for the first time when they returned to the circle of the best selections in Europe. At the 2018 tournament in Udine , a selection including Luisa Geiselsöder, Leonie Fiebich and Emily Bessoir in the 67:54 final win against the Spanish juniors couldn't stop an injury to tournament MVP Nyara Sabally, who was among the five best tournament players from the final top scorer Leonie Fiebich was added.
