Die Jahrhundertlawine (reference title: Val Montana - Die Jahrhundertlawine) is a disaster film by the German director Jörg Lühdorff from 2008. In the lead roles , Désirée Nosbusch and Vincent Perez play the lovers Anne and Marc, whose relationship breaks up after a tragic accident.

action

Anne and Marc are both employed by the Tyrolean Mountain Rescue Service and are lovers. One day a snowboarder is killed in a crash in the mountains. It turns out that he was Anne's brother. The love between Anne and Marc cannot withstand this dramatic circumstance; the relationship breaks. Marc, who is employed by the mountain rescue service as an assistant doctor, leaves his home and does not return until eight years later, when it became known that the dead man's body could finally be recovered and the funeral was scheduled.

Due to his long absence, Marc, who no longer works as a doctor, is unaware that Anne gave birth to a son, Nik, whose father he is.

All of this happens at a time when meteorologists predict an increased risk of storms and warn of avalanches. However, the mayor of the town ignores the warnings in question because he fears that tourists will avoid the town if he passes on these severe weather warnings. It comes as it has to, a big storm breaks in, and powerful avalanches roll towards the small village, as a result of which Marc and Anne, sitting together in a car, are buried. Only at the last minute do the rescuers who rushed out manage to free the two of them from their snow-covered vehicle.

Reviews

The lexicon of international films means that the film is “a (television) disaster film shot in the original locations with romantic-dramatic sprinkles and a digitally generated avalanche disaster”.

The program magazine TV Spielfilm stated simply: "Yesterday's news, the tricks, however, are ok".

The criticism of Kino.de is devastating: There it says that even if the film were 90 minutes long, it would not have been more exciting, but only longer.

Others

The avalanche of the century reflects a similar catastrophe that actually happened to the Tyrolean community of Galtür and that cost the lives of over 30 residents on February 23, 1999. However, the lead production broadcaster RTL relocated filming to Vent. As a result, the residents of Vent were annoyed when they were initially told that the name of their place would not appear in the film. Since the place name Vent still appears in the film, the residents of Venter feared damage to the image of their place, whose main source of income is tourism. The producer Stephan Bechtle contradicted this with the words: "We thought that the mention was in the sense of the vent."
