The Monster Girls ( Japanese モ ン ス タ ー 娘 の い る 日常 , Monsutā Musume no Iru Nichijō , dt. "Everyday life with monster girls"), or Monsutā Musume ( モ ン ス タ ー 娘 ) or MonMusu ( モ ン 娘 ), is a manga by Okayado , 2015 also aired as an anime .

action

Monsters (also called hybrid beings ) are real, but their existence has been kept secret until now. Now they are trying to fit into human culture. To this end, the Japanese government created a cultural exchange program during which the monsters can stay with certain host families. The following rules must be observed: The monsters are not allowed to leave the house alone; Monsters and humans are not allowed to harm each other; and the monsters must not engage in sexual relations with a human.

One day, a lamia named Mia is accidentally delivered to the young student Kimihito . In the course of the action but female monster more to come to him, like a harpy , a centaur , a slime girl, a mermaid and a Arachne who fall in love gradually all into it. Now he has his hands full making his house guests as comfortable as possible, taking into account all of their feelings towards him and facing the physical challenges that make a relationship between humans and monsters so difficult.

Kimihito Kurusu ( 来 留 主 公人 , Kurusu Kimihito )
The young adult happens to be the host of a number of female monsters. That he should marry one of them doesn't necessarily make things any easier for him. Due to his honest and devoted manner, as well as the fact that he does not treat her as monsters, but normal people, he conquers the hearts of almost all women he meets. He is also an excellent cook and generally very gifted in household chores. Kimihito is almost never called by name, but by each one with an individual nickname. His name can also be read as a “protagonist” ( 主公 人 ).
Mia ( ミ ー ア , Mīa )
As a lamia she is a girl with a 7 m long abdomen of a snake, which brings her the disadvantage of being cold-blooded. She was the first of the monster girls to come to Kimihito and instantly fell in love with him. However, because of her underdeveloped sense of taste as a carnivore, she is very bad at cooking, even if she always tries enthusiastically. In addition, like many snakes, it is also quite jumpy. Since lamias are exclusively female, they abduct human males to mate, which, as is usual with snakes, can take hours. Their culture is very open sexually, including many varieties that are taboo in human cultures. Mia is an exception here, however, as she is very reserved for her kind. She affectionately calls Kimihito "Darling" ( だ ぁ り ん ).
Papi ( パ ピ )
She is a harpy and because of her “sparrow brain” not particularly smart and also very forgetful, but always playful and easily makes friends. Although she is about as old as her roommates, not only is her behavior childish, but also her appearance, as only a petite body enables her species to fly. They can also see poorly at night, have only one thumb because of their wings and are therefore difficult to grip and have strong feet with claws. She came to Kimihito, whom she calls " host " ( ご 主人 , goshujin ) because she has a hard time memorizing the rules of the exchange program, so Smith put her under Kimihito for the sake of simplicity. In the course of the series it also comes out that harpies lay unfertilized eggs every now and then. Actually, the rule of thumb in their species is that harpies seek some male - humans, since harpies are an all-female breed - for fertilization and then leave. As free spirits, however, they rarely stick to the rules.
Centrea Sianus ( セ ン ト レ ア ・ シ ア ヌ ス , Sentorea Shianusu )
Zentrea, or Zerea for short, is a centaur , a race of proud, warlike beings. Of all the girls in the house, she has the largest bust size for evolutionary reasons, as young centaurs need a lot of milk to grow up. Zentrea can handle the sword and bow and accepts Kimihito as her sole "lord and master" ( 主殿 , aruji-dono ). Since only strength counted for their species, female centaurs only mated with the strongest centaur stallions, which, however, led to them becoming coarser and more uncouth, so that the former began to use a teaser male (mostly humans) that stimulated the mare while she is covered by a centaur. However, it happens that centaur women secretly have children with the teasers, as with Centaur's mother, so that Centaur is actually a centaur-human hybrid.
Sue ( ス ー , Sū )
Sue, a slime creature, is a skeletonless shape shifter, but mostly takes on the body shape of her closest friend Papi, who gave her her name, derived from slime (Japanese suraimu ). She is constantly dependent on water, but too much contact with it can lead to the dissolution of her body and thus death. With the tentacle on her head, she can hear and pronounce the thoughts of others by hanging up. Since Sue has no experience with human nature, she likes to mimic the behavior of others. In the course of time, she learns to speak, mostly only uttering whole sentences in Kimihito's presence. It can absorb any substance, some of which have a short-term effect on its nature - very nutrient-rich such as fertilizers increase its intelligence and toxins give it a poisonous character. She calls Kimihito "Master" ( マ ス タ ー , Masutā ).
Meluna "Melu" Loreley de Neptun ( メ ロ ウ ヌ ・ ロ ー レ ラ イ ・ ド ・ ネ プ チ ュ ー ン , Merōnu Rōrerai do Nepuchūn )
A mermaid of royal origin, who is dependent on a wheelchair because of the aquatic adaptations of her body outside of the water. She has a penchant for the Gothic Lolita style and for tragic stories (her favorite story is The Little Mermaid ) and would therefore prefer to have an indirect relationship (i.e. an affair) with Kimihito, whom she “loves” ( だ ん な 様 , danna- sama ) calls. However, over time, she realizes that this might not be a fulfilling relationship after all. She also discovers her hidden masochistic streak.
Rachnera Arachnera ( ラ ク ネ ラ ・ ア ラ ク ネ ラ , Rakunera Arakunera )
Rachnera is Arachne , a creature with the upper body of a girl and the abdomen of a spider, and six eyes instead of just two. She originally had a host family, but after her daughter was injured by a misunderstanding by Rachnera, the parents sold her to a greedy scammer. As a result, Rachnera first developed a deep dislike for people. Rachnera is a bit stubborn, but also very clever and, unlike the other girls, is better aware of the differences in strength between monsters and humans and the associated risk of injury, so she is more careful with Kimihito, whom she calls "Honey" ( ハ ニ ー , Hanī ) calls, bypasses. Rachnera also has a penchant for bondage techniques, which she tries to perfect with her own spider silk on other housemates (including Kimihito).
Lala ( ラ ラ , Rara )
Lala is a female Dullahan . She is able to separate her head from the body and to be able to let both parts act independently and a very theatrical, grandiose expression that reminds Kimihito of pubescent megalomania ( chūnibyō ). She is after Kimihito because most of the other girls repeatedly (unintentionally) put him in danger of death and his soul would therefore be good prey for her; because of his inner stamina, however, Kimihito has so far repeatedly escaped death. Lala also falls in love with Kimihito over time, but unlike the other girls, she doesn't stir up arguments about his feelings, as his soul would one day fall to her anyway. She pretends to be a shinigami ( grim reaper ), but is actually a messenger of death . She is more sociophobic, usually stays in the background and has difficulty talking to strangers or showing her feelings in public.

Special unit MON

In addition to the main story, episodes from the work of the special unit MON are shown again and again, which, in contrast to the main characters, are not so clumsy.

Mrs. Smith / Kuroko Smith ( 墨 須 黒 子 , Sumisu Kuroko )
Ms. Smith is a coordinator of the Japanese cultural exchange program but is very sloppy in her duties because of her low salary and lack of personal motivation. It is a constant habit of hers to give Kimihito one new monster guest after the other and then leave him with the sole responsibility, as well as regularly invite himself to dinner with him. She also seems to have a preference for caffeine or coffee. In order to catch criminal monsters, she heads the special unit MON ( Monsters Of a New Law ). She calls Kimihito, imitating Mia, but rather amused Darling ( だ ぁ り ん 君 , daarin-kun ).
Zombina ( ゾ ン ビ ー ナ , Zonbīna )
Zombina is, as her name suggests, a zombie who cannot harm bullets, which she finds annoying. She is more boyish, gun-mad and loves zombie films. Zombina is also a Fujoshi ("spoiled girl"), as women call themselves who like Yaoi manga. She calls Kimihito affable kareshi-kun ( 彼 氏 ク ン ), like the other MON members, a variation of kareshi 'boyfriend' in relation to the monster girls who love him in his house.
Tionisha ( テ ィ オ ニ シ ア , Tionishia )
Tionisha is an ogre and therefore very tall at 2.27 m with a horn on her forehead. She has tremendous powers, which she often shows. Nevertheless, she is very girlish and exudes a gentle, motherly aura. She affectionately calls Kimihito kareshi-chan ( 彼 氏 ち ゃ ん ).
Manako ( マ ナ コ )
Manako is a cyclops and as a sniper with her rifle gives the team back cover. She is very polite and shy, and has low self-esteem because of her large cyclops eyes. She politely calls Kimihito kareshi-san ( 彼 氏 さ ん ).
Double ( ド ッ ペ ル , Dopperu )
Doppel is a shape shifter who can transform into any person (see doppelganger in English) and is therefore often used for infiltration. Their true appearance is unknown, but it is suggested that it corresponds to a Lovecraftian horror (especially Nyarlathotep ). In her usual form, she is dark-skinned, naked, and uses her long white hair to cover her nakedness. She loves to play pranks and wreak havoc on others. She casually calls Kimihito kareshii ( 彼 氏 ィ ).

Others

Pold ( ポ ル ト , Poruto )
Polt is a goblin who looks essentially like humans except for their dog ears, tail and nose and thicker body hair. Sport is her life and she loves helping others, which is why you can always see her either doing sport or doing charitable work. She runs the Sports Club Kobold fitness studio and possibly a complete sports stadium, which could, however, also belong to her kind.
Ki ( キ ー , Kī )
Ki is a dryad , i.e. H. a tree spirit. She was abducted as a child, but managed to escape her kidnappers. She was found by Papi, who gave her the not particularly imaginative (see also Sue) name Ki - Japanese for 'tree' - but soon forgot about it. Her new home, however, was an illegal chemical waste dump, which is why she became a people-hating plant monster as her body is determined by the nutrients she ingests. With Sue's help, Kimihito was able to detoxify her. She regards Papi and Sue as her friends.
Draco ( ド ラ コ , Dorako )
Draco is a dragon person. Draco is always smartly dressed and always tries to flirt with Mia. Because of her behavior and appearance, she is often mistaken for a man. Due to the kinship of its kind with the dragons, it often gives birth to arrogant and superior.
Lilith ( リ リ ス , Ririsu )
Lilith is a low devil. She loves to tease others and to play with them for her own pleasure. She uses her young appearance (hiding her devil horns, wings and tail) to pretend to be a harmless, innocent girl, even though she is an adult. After she was punished for her behavior by Rachnera as a toy for her bondage games, she found pleasure in it and now enjoys every opportunity to be punished by Rachnera again.
Luz Ninety ( ル ズ ・ ナ イ ン テ ィ , Ruz Nainti )
Ruz Ninety, derived from nine tails ( ナ イ ン テ イ ル ズ nainteiruzu ), is a nine-tailed fox spirit . She took part in the exchange program after seeing miko (shrine indians) in anime and decided to become one herself. Since the shrine where she works has money problems, she tries to help her host by organizing a magical girl show in the hope of being rewarded with Inari sushi (see fox goddess Inari ). Ruz has the ability to transform into any shape.
Cattle ( キ ャ ト ル , Kyatoru )
Cattle is a minotaurine . At 2.31 m she is a very tall, muscular woman with horns, a cow tail and, as a lactating species, with breasts in cup size Q. She also works on a farm and therefore only wears dungarees with a bikini underneath. She is easily irritable and proud, but ready to admit mistakes. She is in a relationship with the young farmer on the farm.
Merino ( メ リ ノ )
Merino is a pan woman, with the appearance of a merino sheep girl. She is rather shy (see English sheepish ) and very caring. She works with Cattle on the farm, which also sells Cattles and Merinos milk.
Cott ( コ ッ ト , Kotto ) andTone ( ト ー ン , Tōn )
Cott and Ton are two Barometz girls. Barometzes (tree lambs) resemble pans like merino in their appearance, but are plant creatures. The twins also work on the farm. There they produce cotton and take care of the vegetable fields.

From 2007/2008, Takemaru Inui published a series of comic strips under the pseudonym Okayado in the adult forum Pink Channel and later also on the artist platform pixiv in which he drew a short story on each page about erotic relationships to a mythical creature:

Manga series

Due to the popularity of the series, he was selected by the publisher Tokuma Shoten in 2011 to draw a contribution in their monster anthology manga Kemono Volume 2 in which he took over the characters from his previous manga series and called the story Monster Musume no Iru Nichijō . He was then given the opportunity to publish the work as a series in Comic Ryū magazine, where it has been published since March 19, 2012 (issue 5/2012). The chapters have been summarized in 14 anthologies ( Tankōbon ) so far . As of February 2016, 2.3 million copies were sold in Japan.

In the German-speaking countries, the work was acquired by VIZ Media Switzerland , who have been publishing it under their imprint Kazé Manga as Die Monster Mädchen since December 4, 2014. 13 volumes have appeared so far. Since October 2013 he has appeared in the USA as Monster Musume for Seven Seas Entertainment . The work can be found there regularly in the top 10, sometimes also number 1, in the Manga charts published by the New York Times . The current band sold over 90,000 copies in the first two weeks.

In addition, four volumes of the spin-off Monster Musume no Iru Nichijō were published on August 12 and September 12, 2015 and on February 13, 2016 : 4-koma Anthology ( モ ン ス タ ー 娘 の い る 日常 4 コ マ ア ン ソ ロ ロ ー , Monsutā Musume no Iru Nichijō: 4-koma Ansorojī ) in the form of Yonkoma stories from various other manga artists. The first two volumes were licensed in the USA by Seven Seas, which they published from May 17, 2016 to March 28, 2017 as Monster Musume: I ♥ Monster Girls (read: I Heart Monster Girls ). From June 2017 to December 2018, the Yonkoma volumes will be published by Kazé as Die Monster Mädchen Anthologie in German.

Adaptations

Anime

In March 2015, the production of an anime series was announced. This is animated by the Lerche and Seva studios and directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara , with the scripts by Kazuyuki Fudeyasu and the character design by Takaya Sunagawa . Hiroko Tanabe is the artistic director . The 13 episodes were broadcast from July 8 to September 23, 2015 after midnight (and thus on the previous television day ) on Tokyo MX , KBS Kyōto , Sun TV and AT-X , as well as nationwide via satellite on BS11 the following day .

In Germany, the rights to the anime were acquired by Kazé , who is also offering him as Die Monster Mädchen on the video portal Anime on Demand as a simulcast with German subtitles. In North America, simulcasts are provided by Crunchyroll and in Latin America and Southeast Asia by Daisuki.

The limited edition of the 11th Manga volume planned for November 12, 2016 should be accompanied by a DVD with another anime sequence.

The music for the series is by Hiroaki Tsutsumi and Manzo . For the opening credits the song Saikōsoku Fall in Love ( 最 高速 Fall in Love), sung by the voice actors Ari Ozawa, Natsuki Aikawa, Sora Amamiya, Haruka Yamazaki and Mayuka Nomura, is used. The closing title is Hey! Smith !! by Smith and Mon.

DMM Games published the browser game Monster Musume no Iru Nichijō Online ( モ ン ( タ ー 娘 の い る 日常 オ ン ラ イ ン , Monsutā Musume no Iru Nichijō Onrain ) on December 21, 2015 . The game has its own characters and storyline in which the player takes on the role of a person who takes a small number of monster girls into their home and deepens their relationship with them. The game mechanics are similar to DMM Games' popular browser game Kantai Collection .
