Kantai Collection ( Japanese 艦隊 こ れ く し ょ ん , Kantai Korekushon , German "Fleet Collection ") or KanColle for short ( 艦 こ れ ) is a Japanese computer game . The online game revolves around the theme of sea battles with mainly warships of the Imperial Japanese Navy of the Pacific War , which are portrayed as attractive school girls.

Content and game mechanics

The game works in a similar way to a trading card game , the player competes against the computer or other players with their ships, each of which has certain properties assigned to them. The ships, all warships from the Second World War, are represented as "Fleet Girls" ( 艦 娘 , kanmusu ), whose properties and behavior correspond to those of the ships. The player uses the ships strategically like an admiral, the fight itself is largely automatic.

In the game different cards are unlocked one after the other, whereby experience points can be collected, which bring advantages in later fights. The ships have to be repaired and upgraded and new ships can be purchased. The resources steel, bauxite , fuel and ammunition are required for supplying and building the ships , which the player must acquire through time, battles or completing missions. Ships can also be sacrificed to improve others.

Development and publication

The game was developed by Kadokawa Games under director and designer Kensuke Tanaka . The music was composed by Hiroshi Usami, Kaori Ōkoshi and Michio Okamiya. The browser game has been playable for free since April 23, 2013 .

In March 2014, the first non-Japanese ships were added with three ships of the German Navy - Z 1 Leberecht Maass , Z 3 Max Schultz and Bismarck - and in the same year the German heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen and the German submarine U 511 were added and with the battleship Littorio , the first Italian ship was added in 2015. The Soviet destroyer Werny was recorded in September 2011 , but previously it was also part of the Japanese Navy as Hibiki .

In addition, there was a cooperation with the anime Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio , which has a similar setting of ships personified as girls from the Second World War. In return, a special event took place in the Kantai Collection from December 24, 2013 to January 8, 2014 , at which some of the figures / ships from Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio were playable or opponents.

Adaptations

More games

A PlayStation Vita game called KanColle Kai ( 艦 こ こ 改 ) was announced for spring 2015. It should contain a full marine strategy simulation in which the player can earn his own fleet.

Mangas

In the Comptiq Issue 12/2013 (9 November 2013) also began publishing KanColle side: Kongō ( 艦隊これくしょん-艦これ- side:金剛 ), a series on the history of the ship Kongō of signatory Sasayuki. Further adaptation of Shōtarō Harada has been announced.
