The fourth season of the German emergency and rescue series Die Rettungsflieger celebrated its premiere on September 13, 2000 on ZDF . The finale was broadcast on November 22, 2000.

The nine episodes of the fourth season were first broadcast on Wednesday evening before the 7:25 pm slot and have been repeated regularly in the afternoon program of ZDF and in the afternoon and evening programs of ZDFneo since the television series was discontinued in 2007 .

While the actual emergency doctor for the rescue pilot, medical officer Dr. Maren Maibach, who is on a world tour, takes on the role of substitute. Medical officer Dr. Ilona Müller is the daughter of a general and would like to take command of SAR 71 immediately, but when she clashes with paramedic Thomas Asmus on her first mission, in which a young man has to be rescued from a tree, the pilot Alexander Karuhn reprimands his emergency doctor. When she tried to improve the mood in the team the next day, she was rejected, but on the next mission, when a little girl had to be rescued from a borehole, the emergency doctor proves herself by rappelling upside down into the borehole.

Dr. Ilona Müller is completely overwhelmed with the situation after a traffic accident in which an occupant of the car died. When her colleague Thomas Asmus wants to help her, a friendly rapprochement begins between the two rescuers. The next mission again demands the full attention of the crew: A boy has been seriously injured in a former war bunker and needs urgent help. A group of youths attack a young karate student, but the leader of the attacker falls on the window of a building shell and is seriously injured. The team around emergency doctor Dr. Ilona Müller, whose last day of representation is, tries everything to save the boy, but he dies on arrival at the clinic. The next mission leads to a quarry pond where two young girls are said to be seriously injured. Arriving at the quarrying lake, paramedic Thomas Asmus fears that his daughter Nina is among the victims, which can be confirmed by the boatman's son, but ultimately everything turns out to be different from what was initially assumed. However, the paramedic realizes that he belongs to his family, who are moving to Ulm to live with his mother-in-law. He asks Colonel Dr. Norbert Kettwig about transfer to SAR 75 at the Bundeswehr Hospital Ulm , and also medical officer Dr. Ilona Müller makes a decision about her future.

The emergency doctor Dr. Maren Maibach returns from her world tour and meets Alexander Karuhn at the airport, who is returning from a weekend trip from Paris from his partner Elke Kehding. The two exchange ideas and ultimately Maren Maibach stays at the rescue center to avoid Anton Wollcke, her ex-boyfriend. The next morning Sergeant Torsten Biedenstedt starts his job as the new paramedic and has problems with Sergeant Jan Wollcke due to his nature. In the end, this mission follows the crew even longer.
27 7th All for one November 8, 2000 Georg Schiemann
Sergeant Torsten Biedenstedt gets in trouble: If he had tried to stop an annoying photographer from taking pictures, the Bundeswehr is now investigating - in the person of Doctor Colonel Dr. Norbert Kettwig - against him. Meanwhile, two people fall from a drained floating dock during a photo shoot and the rescue pilots are called. The next time he goes out, an elderly man who thinks he is about to die asks Alexander Karuhn for a favor: he is supposed to hand his quarreling sons a letter that will lead them to inheritance, but everything turns out differently. Meanwhile, a group of young people shoot a group of horses, but the owner overreacts and shoots back: the rescue pilots have to move out and intervene quickly.
28 8th Left alone November 15, 2000 Georg Schiemann
The rescue pilots are called to a burning car, but how this accident happened is unclear. Meanwhile, Maren Maibach, who went out with Torsten Biedenstedt, and Alexander Karuhn, who is on the road with Maren's sister Kerstin, meet and a misunderstanding develops into a major conflict that ultimately changes a lot in the relationship between the emergency doctor and the pilot. The next day the rescuer follows the story of the Bulgarian Constantine, because he seems homeless and helpless, but pilot Alexander Karuhn has an idea.
29 9 Hunting season November 22, 2000 Georg Schiemann
Surprise for the SAR 71 ambulance team: In the morning, their chief doctor, Dr. Norbert Kettwig invites the crew to his hunting lodge for the weekend. The crew members are surprised, but have to go to their next assignment and don't have time to think about the invitation: A young girl collapsed during physical education, but what initially looks like mushroom poisoning surprises the medical staff around Dr. Maren Maibach and Torsten Biedenstedt, because the girl is very pregnant. Once at the hospital, the emergency doctor has to mediate between the girl's father and the boyfriend and help the girl with the birth. The next assignment will also be difficult, because at a management conference a humiliated participant goes crazy and stabs the seminar leader with scissors. The rescue pilots have to react quickly. When the team went to see Oberstarzt Dr. Kettwig arrives, there is no trace of him and his wife and the team members have to rush to the aid of their boss, who is on the trail of a poacher. There are some changes in the private sphere for the rescuers: While Maren Maibach and Alexander Karuhn are getting closer, Jan Wollcke and his wife are arguing more and more and Torsten Biedenstedt has to say goodbye to his acquaintance.

DVD release

The DVD with the episodes of the fourth season was released on October 10, 2008.

A DVD box with all eleven squadrons of the rescue pilots and the pilot film Four Friends in Action was released on August 24, 2012.
