The rope team is a German rock band from Berlin, founded in 1992 . It became known as the band of the songwriter Gerhard Gundermann, who died in 1998 .

history

Gundermann & Seilschaft 1993 in the Kesselhaus of the Kulturbrauerei Berlin

In 1992, shortly after the recordings for the album Einsame Spitze , Gerhard Gundermann was looking for a new band of his own to bring this album live on stage. That was the initial spark of Gundermann & Seilschaft in Berlin.

The drummer Tina Powileit, who was a founding member of the rock band Mona Lise in the 1980s and made her debut as an actress in the DEFA film Die Alinseglerin in 1987, formed the foundation of this new band with Thomas Hergert on bass. Then came Mario Ferraro as a guitarist, whom Gundermann already knew from the band Die Wilderer. Michael Nass, as a teenager at P 16 and later also with Veronika Fischer , joined the group as a keyboardist and organist, while Andreas Wieczorek, with his folk influences, completed the band as a saxophonist and flutist. The sound of this rock band was influenced by the influences of the E Street Band Bruce Springsteens , but also included many elements of traditional folk music.

After the tour was over, Gundermann & Seilschaft used an invitation from Rio Reiser to Fresenhagen in 1993 to prepare for the next album by the 7th Samurai . In addition to the concerts, a number of songs were now written together with Gundermann. Michael Nass and Mario Ferraro were involved as composers on the following three studio albums and in some cases also worked as producers or co-producers. Up until Gundermann's death in June 1998, the band played many concerts in Germany and recorded studio albums and live concerts with Gundermann that were released on the Buschfunk label .

Gundermann & Seilschaft received the annual award of the best songs list of the SWR and the award of the German Record Critics . They played in the opening act for Bob Dylan and Joan Baez's tours in Germany.

Since 2008

After Gundermann's death in 1998, it took ten years for the rope team to be on the same stage again. It was not until the memorial concert “All or None” in Berlin's Columbiahalle in 2008, at which many artists musically remembered the 10th anniversary of Gundermann's death, that the band was reunited on stage. The songwriter / musician Christian Haase joined the group as singer and guitarist, thus completing the new team.

In the past few years the band members had each started their own projects or had joined other bands. Mario Ferraro and Andreas Wieczoreck had founded the band Polkaholix with other musicians . Michael Nass joined the Cologne band BAP in 1999 and has since worked for other artists as a songwriter and producer. Tina Powileit met the Leipzig musician Christian Haase, recorded albums and toured Germany with him. In 2007 the bassist of the band, Thomas Hergert, died, so that Christoph Frenz took over this position in 2008. He, too, had supported Gundermann with the poachers at the end of the 1980s .

Today the rope team plays concerts and tours with the original songs from Gundermann's complete works, but has also written new songs that tie in with Gundermann's themes.
