The Taxi Driver is a film by Jacques Bral that was released in French cinemas on September 10, 1980 (it was shot in 1979), which shows a love triangle between a taxi driver and two men and is set mainly in Paris at night. It was one of the best-selling films of the 1980/1981 season in France. The film was released in Germany on July 10, 1981. action

The unstable jazz saxophonist Léo has lost his job and girlfriend and lives with his old friend (from the 68s), the writer Bony, who currently has writer's block. One night he met Cora, a lonely, very independent outsider, who drives a taxi in Paris at night, but dreams of a life in South America (and does not shy away from robbing customers). They spend the night in the back seat of the taxi and then use Bony's apartment, who leaves them to them. When Bony also makes advances, Cora distances them so as not to endanger their friendship.

Trivia

Christine Boisson returns to film here after she starred in Emmanuelle films in 1974 and then went to drama school and played theater (including Shakespeare ). For Gerard Lanvin, too, the film was a career leap.

Awards

The sound engineer Antoine Bonfanti won the Ernest Artaria Award at the Locarno Film Festival in 1980 for his work on film , as did Pierre-William Glenn for the camera work.

The film received the “Perspectives du Cinéma Français” award in Cannes in 1980 .

Reviews

“A film about fatigue and resignation that is interesting both in terms of its staging and its complex character drawing, developed with a bit of gallows humor and little hope. In atmospheric images he composes a gloomy and bleak image of the city and people, but overall it is exaggerated and full of dramaturgical contradictions. "

«The film doesn't tell anything that would be interesting on paper, but in its tone of sweetness and violence, sensuality and its impressionism it is very impressive. »
