action

Neïla Salah is late for the lecture of law professor Pierre Mazard on the first day of her studies. He expresses himself cynically and condescendingly about her and exposes her in front of the entire auditorium. When his sayings allude to their Arab roots, students accuse him of racism. His remarks ended up as cell phone videos on Facebook and various groups and a petition then campaigned for his release. Since there has been trouble with Pierre's appearance again and again in recent years, he will now definitely have to testify before the disciplinary committee. University President Grégoire Viviani no longer wants to cover him, but at the same time prevents his dismissal and suggests that Pierre Neïla should support Neïla as a mentor in the annual rhetoric competition. This is supposed to put the committee at ease. Inevitably, Pierre agrees.

Neïla had no plans to enter the competition, but after some hesitation accepts Pierre's offer to teach her rhetoric. After the first hour, in which both of Arthur Schopenhauer's work The Art of Being Right, came to a break in the second hour, when Pierre Neïlas criticized negligent clothing. However, both find their way back together. Other lessons deal with articulation , among other things , which is practically rehearsed with loud recitations in the subway. Finally, there are hours in which they deal with incorrect arguments and other rhetorical tricks by Schopenhauer.

The first round of the rhetoric competition is coming up and Neïla is supposed to argue on the subject of “clothes make the man”. Her opponent insults her in a racist way, and she lets herself be disconcerted. She still goes one round because her opponent is disqualified. Neïla has taken Pierre's comments on her demeanor to heart and dresses more elegantly. This leads to a crisis in her clique, especially with Mounir, whom she has known since childhood and who accuses her of being elitist. With the help of rhetorical tricks, she manages that he finally confesses his love for her. Both become a couple. While Neïla is making it to the final in the rhetoric competition, her relationship with Mounir is becoming increasingly fragile, not least because she reproaches him for every linguistic mistake and constantly corrects it.

Shortly before the final, Neïla Pierre thanks the assembled university management for his support. She learns from a fellow student that the Disciplinary Committee will meet in a week's time and that Pierre has only used her to appear in a better light. She reveals to Pierre that she will never help him wash himself off. At the final of the competition she does not appear, but goes to Mounir - after another grammar correction, Neïlas radio silence reigned between the two. She apologizes to him and admits that she threw everything up. However, Mounir wants her to keep fighting and drives her to the competition. When Neïla appears, the competition hall is empty. Shortly thereafter, she bursts into the disciplinary committee and is allowed to give her opinion on Pierre's case. Rhetorically speaking, she describes him as a cynic, disrespectful and incredulous in every respect, but also defends him. Pierre follows her and thanks.

Some time later, Neïla works as a criminal defense lawyer. In the first step, she teaches a disrespectful criminal to respect her and goes through the basics with him, which Pierre also taught her: to stand up straight when speaking and to speak clearly in order to convince the first impression in court.
