occupation

The Fearless Four is a cartoon with some computer animations by the director Eberhard Junkersdorf from 1997.

action

The four aging animals - dog, cat, donkey and rooster - have fled their previous accommodation because they simply wanted to be disposed of due to their deteriorating performance. They decided to move to Bremen to face their future lives together. When they got there, however, they found that they had run straight into the hands of their original captors, who then defeated them with wit and cleverness.

This modern version of the Bremen Town Musicians has the framework of the original story, but embellished with elements from today. This combination of the traditional and the new was also implemented by hand, in a mixture of classic cartoon and modern animation.

Production history

Eberhard Junkersdorf founded the animation studio Munich Animation in Munich in March 1995 for the production of the film. It was located at Ohmstrasse 15, not far from Münchner Freiheit . Until December 1996, the film was produced there by a 150-strong international team. The team included 3D computer specialists who were responsible for the computer animation. In the later film, the address of the studio is recognizable to the attentive viewer in the detailed representations of the “Powertool”, which is a robot-like character in the film that was animated on the computer. 3D backgrounds generated in the computer were also used. The special feature of the film is the combination of traditional animated films and digital production or computer animation. Furthermore, the coloring and the trick camera were also implemented purely digitally. The film was produced in English because it was intended for worldwide distribution. In 1997 the film premiered at the Gloria Palast in Munich. Eberhard Junkersdorf received the Bavarian Film Prize as a producer of the film.

criticism

“The German film always gives rise to new hopes. The latest reason for high expectations is Eberhard Junkersdorf's first cartoon. The amazingly enjoyable, very free version of the "Bremer Stadtmusikanten" convinces with its professional perfection, an almost dreamlike confident handling of the most diverse animation styles and the noticeable enthusiasm of its makers in the dramaturgical, optical and musical implementation. The successful result can not only play in the Disney League of cartoon family entertainment, but for the first time also gives hope for good export opportunities. "

“A respectable German animation production with lovable main characters, whose carefully crafted characters are particularly suitable for children's perception. The aesthetic concept of combining hand and computer animation, however, does not work. "
