The perfect dictatorship ( Spanish La dictadura perfecta ) is a Mexican comedy and political satire from 2014, written, produced and directed by Luis Estrada, with Damián Alcázar, Alfonso Herrera , Joaquín Cosío , Dagoberto Gama, María Rojo and Salvador Sánchez in the Leading roles. The film was released on October 16, 2014 and represented Mexico at the 2015 Goya Award ceremony .

The title of the film is a reference to a famous statement by the Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa , which he used to describe the continuing government of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) that dominated politics in Mexico for much of the 20th century. The plot is based on the real-life Televisa controversy, which was that Mexican citizens perceived an unfair favoritism for PRI candidate Enrique Peña Nieto in the 2012 presidential election in Mexico .

The film was shot primarily in the state of Durango , Mexico.

After an international faux pas spreads, the Mexican government is pushing Television Mexicana , the most powerful Mexican television company, to provide a media diversion. Television Mexicana reveals a scandalous story involving Governor Carmelo Vargas (Damián Alcázar) in serious crimes and illegal business. Governor Vargas, concerned about his political future, decides to clean up his image and negotiates a secret deal with the Mexicana Television. Carlos Rojo ( Alfonso Herrera ), an ambitious young news producer, and Ricardo Diaz (Osvaldo Benavides), a star reporter for the television station, are responsible for transforming the public image of the corrupt governor with the aim of turning him into a political star and presidential candidate do.
