Diego Wavy

Diego Wellig (born July 18, 1961 in Switzerland ) is a mountain guide and snow sports instructor .

After completing his electrical mechanic apprenticeship in 1981, he obtained his mountain guide diploma the following year. In 1987 he passed the snow sports instructor diploma. In 1991 he began training as a school principal and has been the director of the Belalp snow sports school ever since.

Diego Wellig has been working as a mountain guide in the Alps during the summer months since 1983. In spring and autumn he leads trekking tours and expeditions in Asia, South America and Africa.

Rockclimbing

In 1975, at the age of 14, he joined the SAC-JO local group in Brig and in the same year climbed his first four-thousand-meter peak with the Allalin (4027 m). By 2002 he was the first Swiss citizen to climb the highest mountains on all continents, the so-called Seven Summits .

Sport climbing

As a teenager, Diego Wellig was enthusiastic about the emerging sport climbing. After the classic climbing tours and walls in Europe, Diego Wellig also climbed in Yosemite National Park in North America. The ascent of the famous walls such as the 1000 m high El Capitan and the 750 m high Half Dome are highlights of his sport climbing time.

  • 1990: Nanga Parbat north summit 8070 m (4th eight-thousander), ski run with Hans Kammerlander - Gurla Mandhata 7728 m (second ascent)
  • 1991: Ama Dablam 6837 m (Matterhorn Nepal)
  • 1992: Matterhorn all 4 ridges in ascent and descent in 24 hours (Z'Mutt, Furgg, Italiener, Hörnli) - 2nd attempt Mount Everest 8848 m (8751 m south summit without oxygen bottles) - Mount Vinson 4897 m
