Dieter Acker (born November 3, 1940 in Hermannstadt , Romania , † May 27, 2006 in Munich ) was a German composer .

Life and works

Dieter Acker was introduced to German music culture from an early age by his teacher Franz Xaver Dressler (a student of Straube and Reger ). He studied composition with Sigismund Toduta , a pupil of Pizzetti and Casella . In 1969 Acker moved from Transylvania ( Romania ) to Germany for political and art-political reasons .

In Germany he was first in Düsseldorf , then from 1972 in Munich at the Musikhochschule , where he received a professorship for composition in 1976, succeeding Harald Genzmer . Numerous prominent composers come from his composition class, such as Wolfram Buchenberg , Ferran Cruixent , Oriol Cruixent , Marius Ruhland , Florian Heigenhauser , Peter Wittrich and others. In 2000 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Klausenburger Hochschule .

“Never committed to an avant-garde party, Acker developed his very own style of composition, which is primarily geared towards comprehensibility and traceability, without falling into popular ingratiation. His music is melodious, sensitive, of fine structure and yet of intense effect, the restrained silence, the lyrical as powerful as the great heightening, the ecstatic. Their urgency touches and transfers itself immediately. " (Quotation from H. Leuchtmann)

Dieter Acker wrote well over a hundred works that were performed by well-known performers. Above all, he wrote orchestral compositions , including six symphonies , instrumental concerts , chamber music in a wide variety of settings, as well as piano , organ and vocal works.

The 1988 Johann Wenzel Stamitz Prize winner died of a serious illness at the age of 65.
